What frustrates me about this response from Rose is that if we were to take them at their word, that this was all done in good faith, where is the acknowledgement that bad actors were using their work to stalk people? No the only issue to them is that they were getting criticized
People doing above ground work might think that they’re safe from the sort of horrific government crackdowns on groups like the Prairieland 5, the ELF, the ALF, AIM, etc, but let me remind you that the net of what is considered “out of bounds” is expanding constantly and rapidly.
“If you attend a demonstration that becomes volatile due to an action taken by someone in the crowd—or, for that matter, someone in law enforcement—you could now find yourself on trial for something you had little to do with.
Even if you aren’t present, as was the case with Sanchez, you run the risk of facing potentially life-ruining federal charges.
If Prairieland sets the precedent, de Janon said, “the state could just accuse you of anything and say you ‘conspired’ to do [it].”

In Texas you can rape a child for multiple years and the state will step in to issue a 30 day sentence. Oppose kidnapping and disappearing of neighbors and you get 50-100 years.
the Prairieland convictions mean: if your ideology puts you in opposition to the state, there’s now a framework for making said opposition a federal crime. quotidian protest stuff is evidence of terrorism is someone around you does something the government *decides* is violent.
if you’ve ever worn black to a protest, used Signal, or carried a first aid kit, a federal jury just decided that can all be evidence of terrorism. a quick thread on the Prairielands convictions from last week, and what they mean for the right to protest in the US:
Update: 8 Texas protesters were sentenced today, following a July 4 noise demo outside an ICE detention center.
The maj. were sentenced to 50 years in prison
2 were sentenced to 70 & 100 years, respectively
The last, who wasn't even at the protest, was sentenced to 30 years.
