On my second watch, this interpretation actually made Bryan’s whole story hit differently. I stopped looking at him like he was supposed to be the next Resident Evil protagonist and started seeing him as a civilian caught in the middle of the outbreak. The things he leaves behind suddenly feel less like missed opportunities and more like breadcrumbs for the survivors who come after him.
The voice recording for his girlfriend, the dropped cure, the ammo left on the streets… those could all become pieces of the story for Leon and Claire to discover later. Even the typewriter and herbs are sitting there, but Bryan never interacts with them because they aren’t for him. He isn’t playing the game. He’s just trying to survive it. And honestly, watching it a second time with that perspective makes the ending feel a lot more intentional. #residentevil
