The Our Lakes Our Future team at Cawthron + @VicUniWgtn are recruiting a #socialscience#phd to research #lake#restoration in #NewZealand! If you're interested in examining what interests, knowledge & institutions are shaping lake futures visit https://t.co/1qgYAsEgkM
Proud supervisor moment! My MSc student Caitlin presenting her research on cyanobacterial blooms through time at Whanganui lakes at the @2021Gsnz conference @MasseyUni today! Part of the @lakes380 project @gnsscience @Cawthron_NZ
The Lake Moawhitu virtual experience is live! Visit https://t.co/fs0tu9nZHV to start exploring.
This virtual reality experience allows you to travel back and forth in time and experience Lake Moawhitu throughout the ages.

Katie Brasell's new manuscript is out looking how sediment storeage affects the DNA yield and biological community and its implications for paleogenomic studies https://t.co/KSWNny0UI6 via @MBMGjournal
We recently ran a sediment sample from Lake Paringa collected by @Cawthron_NZ and @gnsscience for the @lakes380 project, and found eDNA from kākāpō, little brown kiwi, and even South Island kōkako! The only catch is the sample dates from ~1800 #greyghost https://t.co/ZHQ1G5YHBA
Lake Marakapia is a small, shallow (1 m max. depth), dune lake inland from Long Beach on the Chatham Islands (Rēkohu/Wharekauri). Monitoring by @ECan shows it is in a mesotrophic (average) state with good clarity and low levels of algae. Video by @SchmaleLab#lakes380#nzlakes
Lake Rotoeka is a small shallow (only 0.6 m deep) tannin stained peat lake. The distinctive red to coffee water colour is largely from the Dracophyllum (kerosene plant) vegetation. Video by @SchmaleLab#lakes380#freshwaterscience
Te Wapu is a coastal dune peat lake with tannin-stained waters. Seawater sometimes enters the lake, making it partly saline. The lake is in a supertrophic (very poor) state with high nutrients. The @SchmaleLab video shows a algal bloom on the shores. #lakes380#freshwater
Lake Huro, a large, shallow dune lake, is the first in the virtual tour of some of the Chatham Islands (Rēkohu/Wharekauri) lakes. Monitoring by @ECan show the lake has poor although slowly improving water quality. Video by @SchmaleLab

Here's @EthanYackulic giving his mini-talk on hyperspectral inferred chloropigment calibrations for the @lakes380 project. Check out the full talk for details https://t.co/LbMU9eGFuF @nau_ses
At #AGU21? Want to learn about paleolimnology from A LOT of New Zealand's Lakes? I'll be discussing some results from the @lakes380 project for 5 minutes today at 2:45 CST in room 225-227. The longer talk is available here https://t.co/y09Xuns36L
The #lakes380 team have developed a new environmental DNA-based method that can rapidly detect both longfin and shortfin tuna (NZ freshwater eels) in water and sediment samples. Check out the full article (https://t.co/500rjQGtTD) #freshwaterscience #eels #eDNA
