Ahead of Ganeshotsav, the construction of massive Ganesh festival mandaps and display structures in Pune's central peth areas has triggered severe traffic congestion. Several mandals have erected large temporary structures occupying more than half and in some locations up to three-quarters of the road width along narrow lanes connecting Laxmi Road, Kumthekar Road, Kelkar Road, and Tilak Road. With construction materials and support poles blocking street space, daily commuters report that a routine 15-minute drive is taking up to 45 minutes.

The severe narrowing of streets has led to widespread gridlock during morning and evening peak hours, leaving emergency ambulances, PMPML public buses, and private vehicles stranded in long traffic jams. Agitated residents and motorists are calling on the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Pune Police to strictly inspect mandap setups and enforce safety guidelines to keep roads open for emergency transit and daily commuters.
