NVIDIA is working with Australian infrastructure providers to support up to 2 gigawatts of AI computing capacity by 2027, expanding the country’s ability to host advanced AI workloads.

The initiative includes Firmus, CDC, NEXTDC (@nextdc), AirTrunk, Sharon AI (@sharon__ai), IREN (@IREN_Ltd), ResetData and Megaport, with partner-operated facilities expected to deploy successive generations of NVIDIA accelerated-computing systems.

NVIDIA will provide its DSX platform alongside computing, networking and software technologies, while participating infrastructure providers will own and operate the facilities.

The proposed expansion could increase domestic access to advanced computing for Australian companies, researchers and public institutions, while supporting AI models, applications and autonomous agents.

Power availability remains a key constraint, with Australian energy planners projecting data-center electricity consumption could rise from roughly 4 terawatt-hours annually to 12 terawatt-hours by 2030.

The “up to 2 GW” target remains forward-looking, with delivery dependent on planning approvals, grid connections, equipment availability and customer demand.
