@timikayoung@vyc160 I agree, we have so much talent that has come from our Country, Gord Downie,Shania Twain, Michael Buble, imagine if there was a quota and these artist didnt have the chance to shape the music industry like they have. #mus2011
I don't think it is necessary to enforce a quota on any countries content. Why does it matter where the content is coming from? I do agree that the US produces more artists however population is a factor. #mus2011
@SophieECutler i agree that cost is the biggest factor. I live in Toronto where musicians play all the time however, tonight for example, a ticket to see Weezer was almost $100. it gets costly and sometimes you just have to limit yourself to live pub music or digital. #mus2011
@BJW148@sara_carp I am living in Toronto and there are much more options in terms of who plays live here but cost is still a factor. Going to every single show when a band i like plays can become costly very quick. #mus2011
I think that Wald's statement is true. I would pay way more money to see my favorite band live than pay to see a cover band. However i do love live music more than a recording, it's just that price plays a major factor. #mus2011
@sskinner9712 You're right, his voice can fit in basically any genre however the breaking voice technique makes him stand out over the rest making him ranked in the top 100 artists of all time. #mus2011
Susan Boyle broke records of 60 million views b/c people were shocked by her voice matching her looks. I don't enjoy the term "schlock" however it can be true when artist become popular because of their looks or interests over their talent. #mus2011
Music experts says that Ray Charles did more than anyone in the twentieth century to change North American Popular music. His "breaking voice" was like no other. He made music that would reach all people. It signifies the talent and dedication to music #mus2011
portable speakers are evolving everyday to become more compact, waterproof and user friendly. Being able to clip on a powerful speaker to share music with friends on the go has also changed the way I listen to music. #mus2011
Digital technology(spotify) has not only allowed me to explore new artists and chnage the way i access music, it has allowed me to check them out live. I live in downtown Toronto and spotify will notify me if any of the bands/artists i listen to are playing near by. #mus2011
@Abbott_391 Spotify has opened up so many doors for me. It also reccomends artists that are playing at a near by venue here in downtown Toronto or will alert me when a band is playing here. Very cool that i can then go check it out live!
@AlanaMus2011 I agree, i pods have allowed me to self explore new artists and genres however i often find my way back to the music my parents listened to while i was growing up. There is something about putting in an old CD and listening to the whole thing through.
@rebbey_ @jennstirling So True. i understand that peoples obsession for the artist would make them want to shop their brands or support the artist however some things get out of control.ex insane line ups for drake OVO store in a toronto mall for months after opening.
@MacinnisHillary @JarodMurph I agree, as much as there is drug violence and sex, there is however some hope that a shift is happening in popular music. like mentioned in the chapter teegan and sara's "love is love"and Lady Gaga's born this way. i hope it empowers youth instead of creating false needs.
The media has created a false need that you have to be extremely wealthy. ex-bottle service cars designer brand names. Popular music can keep ppl passive because it is always right in front of your eyes ex- movies advertisements radio etc #Mus2011
