@PhilipPullman Congratulations on being awarded a knighthood. Since I finished reading the first of the “La Belle Sauvage” series last October I have been counting the days until the realease of “The Secret Commonwealth.” Looking forward to it.
At 1am last night, I completed “Heads You Win”. It was fabulously written and I am still geeking out about it. Looking forward to your next piece of work. @Jeffrey_Archer
Canada is a melting pot of cultures. I do not think we need a quota to enforce our music identity. Also there are stations that do promote Canadian icons and upcoming Canadian artists. Perhaps these stations need to be promoted more. #MUS2011
@vyc160 I agree Vanessa! I think when it comes down to it most people are just looking for music they enjoy. Often when someone hears that an artist they like is from the same country as them it's just a coincidence and they may develop an even greater interest. #MUS2011
@PhilipPullman Mr. Pullman, I would like to get in contact with you on a platform that will allow more than ~150 characters. Please authorize how to do so.
Ps. I am a very big fan.
Seems like today's youth do not have the opportunity or accessibility to engage in a live performance of their favourite musicians. Many consider a concert to be a rare but cathartic experience and therefore will take the plunge and pay the money. Others have iTunes. #MUS2011
There is a line between "schlock" and inspiration. Many growing artists are influenced by their idols and attempt to imitate their music in order to craft their own originality. "schlock" seems to imitate but not flatter; to copy and not to create. It erases authenticity.#MUS2011
@BilodeauReagan I agree! I also believe that Charles used the breaks to illuminate emotion. Charles would create exaltation, sadness and determination within a single phrase by using breaks, his falsetto as well as laughter or whispers. #MUS2011
Ray Charles mixed black church music, blues and rock-and-roll. Charles used the breaks in his voice to illuminate emotional paradoxes. He would demonstrate emotion by belting a note and breaking before a laugh or a sob- showing raw emotion. #MUS2011
Although quite opposite- north and south, Chicago and New Orleans seem to be hot spots for music development throughout the twentieth century. #MUS2011
The major difference seems to be that classic blues originates from a urban setting and country blues are more rural. Does anyone else notice any major differences? #MUS2011
@morganjrpayne I agree Morgan! I think it's great that identity can be expressed through the form of playlists. Being able to follow celebrities as well as friends is an easy way to share and explore music of interest. It is a way to learn about ourselves and others.
Some people critique the limitlessness of music technology and believe that there music is so available now that we do not take the time to listen and think about what we are really hearing. However; with music so available it lets us explore genres and new/old artists #MUS2011
@danielcrewe14 I agree Daniel! I think Shazam is great technology. I love hearing a song being played while having coffee, at a party or shopping and being able to know the artist, title, and age of the song within seconds. It is convenient and let's us explore new genres.
“It was pristine,” Mr. Giovannoni said. “The sound waves were remarkably clear and clean.” I think it's amazing that a phonautogram from the 1860s could work so remarkably well. Who would have thought that this was such an early form of music? #MUS2011
In the 1800s music was overran by racist acts that seem to be more of a comedy routine alltogether and the music was lost behind that. It's sad that people's racism had to be degraded into an artwork. #MUS2011
Are these issues just an oversight in hopes to make the artist look glamorous or is it an over analyzation of audiences looking to criticize artists and music video producers?
Does anyone think that in music videos often there are avoidance of underlying issues? Binge drinking/drug usage is glorified and the side effects are ignored. Filming may occur in impoverished countries. Animals may be used as props and treated cruelty...cont.. #MUS2011
