I agree that a quota for Canadian music should be enforced,as Canadian artists are regularly overshadowed by American artists. The standard 35% is reasonable as artists from all around the world can still be heard #MUS2011
#MUS2011 New technologies like the MP3 player have forever changed the way we access music. Instead of having to buy a full album or record we can now download specific songs and access them digitally within seconds. This eliminates hard copy discs and allows for more convenience
It's also important to note that with streaming we don't actually own the music we're listening to. If a song is removed from Spotify we have to find the song somewhere else. #MUS2011
It allows us to both be more selective in our choices (like downloading a few songs from an album instead of the whole thing), and more lax in our choices (like downloading an artist's entire work and deleting it if we don't like it). #MUS2011
With streaming, we are less restrained by our financial situation, since streaming music is either free or cheap in comparison to buying a CD or record. #MUS2011
The media industry has created "false needs" through music award shows that rewards what the industry views as 'the best', and overlooks popular artists (usually POC or women), and despite facing backlash over the years, continues to disregard them. #MUS2011
I think a false need that has been created by the music industry is that success can be recreated through some sort of mathematical equation. There is a constant need to pump out 'the next big hit.' This leads to a stagnation in the types of music - #mus2011
There are definitely pros and cons as with most things. Canadian artists can not become popular or even produce music with our support. We also canβt forget about our French music as well as the English pop. #MUS2011
@April_Frampton People may see covering songs, as a form of copy cat. In a way it is, but the true artists are going to be the ones to be able to differentiate their take on the song versus the original and that is what I think is so great. #MUS2011
Ray Charles wasnβt afraid to show emotion while singing. Using a breaking voice helped him do so. His passion really comes through, and made his message mean more than just lyrics. Standing out in this time period caused his music to be loved by many. #MUS2011
MP3 players, CD players were what I grew up listening to music with. I was listening to full albums, or one artist because that is what you bought. Now you can choose what and who you listen to with Apple Music and Spotify. #MUS2011
@Abbott_391 Spotify has to be my favorite service. Not only does it allow for discovery of nee artists but it allows friends to collaborate a playlist together suiting each others needs. This friend aspect has helped linoed music to friends which is something mp3 players couldnt do. #mus2011
Distractions or passiveness from real life needs like education & family are replaced with false needs like specific body types & drugs within media due to uneducated decisions people are making while listening to today's popular music. #MUS2011
The media industry has created false needs that influence what products people purchase and consume (drugs, makeup) and how they live their life (social media, parties). The pop music industry is not passive as it makes music based on what sells (sex, partying, fame). #MUS2011
The music industry has created false needs of partying, money and appearances. Lyrics and music videos exemplify this. Young youth are becoming too easily influenced by it and now are expecting these things out of their life. #MUS2011
I believe that there are many false needs that relate to the Idea of success in the music industry(beauty, money etc.) the media recognized that in our society now having an interesting story about something that is "taboo" is eye catching (or in this case ear catching) #mus2011
@BaileyMacP I think I was mainly thinking along the lines of pop/mainstream music (i.e. American idol, fabricated boy bands) when I made this post; the rock classics are mostly an exception; some of them were haggard looking from day one lol #MUS2011
The modern world we live in is full of technology. Popular Music usually creates a seen of expensive and some times exotic places. The music may not but the music video may. A false need would be the designer clothes and gagets that we donβt nessarrly need but want #MUS2011
