I was talking with my uncle yesterday about the genocide we witnessed against our community over the last year, which tore our hearts out and changed us forever. But he reassured me, "at least now the world sees 5% of what Israel has been doing to us for the last 77 years". 😔
It's weird that this is so complicated for liberals/NDP - just offer people things that will make their lives better and make rich people pay for them
Stuff like polling data and palace intrigue are just distractions designed to keep you from doing anything
I really cannot believe this. This is Aziz Shallah. On Dec. 31, 2024, he posted a video of his children sleeping in the cold. His post was asking for blankets for his kids. The other video is of himself shoveling the mud and rain.
Aziz was killed an hour ago in Der El-Balah, middle Gaza.
Canada was never racist. A short thread.
In 1890 Vancouver City Council supported B. T. Rogers efforts to establish a sugar refinery in the city provided he did not employ any Chinese.
These are some of the photos captured by photographer Areej Shahin — images so dangerous that Israelis deemed her worthy of death.
This morning, Areej and her mother were killed in an Israeli airstrike.
More than 100 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza just the last 24 hours.
100 grieving, traumatized people, many of them children, whose final months were spent in a constant state of abject terror.
100 human beings, each one somebody’s world.
Sovereignty and territorial integrity of nations are not for the US government to decide, they are enshrined in international law.
By allowing Israel to act with total impunity, the US is saying acquiring land through conquest is fair game to everyone.
An Algerian medical delegation is currently visiting Gaza, working in the same hospital where I am based. Among them is an ophthalmologist specializing in retinal diseases, whose words today left an indelible mark on me.
As we spoke, he shared something heartbreaking: “Today alone, I examined 17 patients who have already gone blind. Seventeen lives forever changed. If I had come earlier, or if there had been adequate resources here, or if patients could leave Gaza for treatment, this might not have happened. Most of these patients are so young, boys and girls in their prime. It’s devastating to witness.”
He explained that untreated retinal injuries, often caused by trauma and compounded by delayed care, lead to irreversible damage and permanent blindness. These are not just isolated cases, they are preventable tragedies unfolding daily in Gaza. The blockade and the lack of access to advanced medical care are stealing futures and extinguishing hope, one patient at a time.
The doctor’s words echo the unbearable reality of life here: this is not just a medical crisis; it is a humanitarian disaster.
Seventeen people lost their sight today. Seventeen futures changed forever. The question is: how many more will suffer before the world pays attention? Will we act in time, or will we allow these preventable tragedies to continue?
