It is always a pleasure to meet @BayanRahman. I have great admiration for her years of leadership in diplomacy, but what I appreciate most is how grounded, thoughtful, and approachable she remains.
We talked about climate, education, AI and the future of our region.
Building a more forward-looking Kurdistan needs thinking beyond today and preparing our institutions and people for what comes next.
Delighted to see my friend @BayanRahman in Washington as part of the Iraqi delegation headed by PM Zaidi. The Kurdistan Region continues to play a vital role in advancing stability, peace, and prosperity across Iraq and the wider region.
Today, I hosted a joint meeting with General Mazloum Abdi and U.S. Special Presidential Envoy Tom Barrack.
We exchanged views on the latest developments in Syria and the region, emphasizing dialogue, coordination, and joint efforts to preserve stability, enhance security, and support peaceful solutions.
Grateful for today’s meetings with President @masoud_barzani, PM @masrourbarzani, and @IKRPresident Nechirvan Barzani — united in support of a stable, sovereign and prosperous Iraq and @POTUS’s vision for a new Middle East. Our discussions advanced critical opportunities in energy, economics, and the path forward between Erbil and Baghdad. 🇺🇸
I spoke with @SecretaryWright on energy developments in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. I reaffirmed the KRG’s decision to resume oil exports through the Kurdistan pipeline — supporting Iraq’s economic stability and contributing to global energy markets.
I also underlined the need for continued coordination and support to protect Kurdistan’s energy infrastructure, lift the trade embargo imposed on the Kurdistan Region, and stop terrorist attacks on oil companies operating in the Kurdistan Region in order to increase production and exports.
I spoke by phone with @DefensieMin Dilan Yeşilgöz-Zegerius on security developments in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.
We both condemned the attacks targeting the Kurdistan Region and the Peshmerga forces, and expressed deep concern over the escalating tensions in the region.
We also underscored the importance of strengthening bilateral relations and I expressed my appreciation for the longstanding Kurdistan-Netherlands cooperation in security and economic development.
Spoke with Prime Minister @masrourbarzani of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Iranian attacks and attacks by pro-Iranian militias undermine stability and create an unsafe situation. De-escalation is necessary for stability in Iraq and the region. Also relevant to our own security.
Message from President Masoud Barzani
In the name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
The Kurdistan Region has never taken part in the conflicts, tensions, or wars that have afflicted this wider region. Yet there are groups—unchecked by any authority—whose sole aim is to antagonize the Region by every possible means. They repeatedly and unjustly target the Kurdistan Region and the Peshmerga, threatening the lives and stability of our people.
Over the past years these groups have launched dozens of aggressive, unjustified drone and rocket attacks against the Kurdistan Region and Peshmerga positions, causing the martyrdom and injury of many innocent civilians. Since the start of this war, more than 450 rocket and drone strikes have hit the Region and Peshmerga forces. During this period our own headquarters were targeted five times; we remained silent then to avoid spreading fear and anger among the public.
Yesterday, however, a drone struck the residence of the President of the Region in Duhok. This is not merely an attack on a single house or site—every inch of Kurdistan and every Kurdish home is precious to us.
Such attacks are blatant acts of hostility, grave injustices, and unacceptable violations against the Kurdistan Region. They demand a serious and decisive end. These matters cannot be resolved by condemnations, phone calls, telegrams, or committees alone. The Iraqi authorities must decide: either acknowledge an inability to prevent these outlaw elements, or act decisively to protect state sovereignty and take firm measures to ensure such brazen attacks do not recur.
We reaffirm that the people of Kurdistan, with iron will and determination, will defend their peaceful mission and their just cause. No threat, aggression, or enemy will ever be able to break that resolve.

Message from President Barzani to the Public
In the name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
Throughout history, the people of Kurdistan have never sought war; they have always desired peace and coexistence. Whenever war has been imposed upon them, it has been in defense of their rights and their very existence. This is a firm principle rooted in the deep faith, culture, and peaceful nature of the people of Kurdistan.
It is deeply concerning that our region is once again witnessing conflict and tension. In the past and today, our hope has always been to resolve all problems and disputes through peaceful means, for war brings only devastation and suffering.
In this context, it is alarming that certain groups and parties, under the pretext of “resistance” and with baseless slogans, are permitting themselves to attack civilian areas, the economic infrastructure of the Kurdistan Region, as well as Peshmerga bases and facilities. This constitutes war profiteering and a blatant violation of the rights, security, and stability of the citizens of the Kurdistan Region.
Everyone must understand that restraint has its limits. The Peshmerga have never—and will never—accept oppression or aggression from any side. These hostile acts, and the undermining of Kurdistan’s security and stability by those groups, cannot and must not continue. Therefore, we call upon the Government of Iraq, the Council of Representatives, and political forces—especially within the framework of mutual cooperation—to take a firm stance and set clear boundaries against these aggressions, because their continuation will have grave consequences.
As we extend our condolences to the families and loved ones of those who were martyred as a result of these unjust attacks, we reassure the beloved people of Kurdistan that we will continue, with all our strength, to ensure that Kurdistan remains free from war and conflict, and that its peace, security, and the lives of its citizens are protected.
Victory will always belong to the people of Kurdistan.
