The other day I posted about Gordon White's conviction that Springsteen was a closet-case. Looking over the timeline and wondering why Springsteen stopped making good records in 1984, I've realized the most horrible of truths: for all this talent and success, Bruce is just another whipped cuck with a Mommy fixation.

Just like Lennon and McCartney, just like Howard Stern, just like Kurt Cobain and Chris Cornell, just like Bill Burr, just like Jon Bon Jovi, just like Kimmel, DeNiro, and all the rest. Their politics are Mommy's politics, meaning the politics of their domineering wives/surrogate mommies. Springsteen also got a full injection of second wife/failed diva poison, and the especially embittered Jersey Shore variant of it at that.

The timeline doesn't lie - Springsteen makes his last great record just before he meets Surrogate Mommy, who first ruins his marriage, then cajoles him into firing his band (classic Mommy move- isolate a man from his friends), has him move to La-La Land and hook up with a bunch of ridiculous session bozos, record that tuneless Streets of Philadelphia trash for that awful Tom Hanks movie, then embark on a depressing and aura-destroying solo acoustic tour. And it's been one lousy album and one cringe political stance after the next ever since.
