Soundproofing rooms and homes was becoming more popular even before covid. But it takes more than just a thicker drywall to do it right: https://t.co/Lq7t04NwU9
During Waldo Canyon fire in CO Springs, 54% of homes caught fire from windblown firebrands/embers. Here's what CO builders learned: https://t.co/8Q4FgJWQ2n
@RachelDeutsch6@FairWorkweek Or maybe allow fast food employers to approve employees voluntarily requesting to pickup general "house shifts" without having to pay a premium?
@RachelDeutsch6@FairWorkweek Amen!! But what about essential workers in fast food that want to work? And want to pickup xtra hrs? Y not have a voluntary standby list or let fast food employers ask employees to volunteer to cover a sick coworker’s shift, as long as they get written consent from the employees?
@bradlander@FairWorkweek Why can retail employers ask employees to volunteer to cover a sick coworker’s shift, as long as you get written consent from the employees who agree to work, but fast food employers cannot?
@bradlander Laws don't need to be suspended. There's good intent. But there needs to be something (such as a voluntary standby list) that affords employees more flexibility to pick up xtra hours/shifts/etc without employer having to pay premium.
@bradlander Restaurants only have $$ to pay premiums when they have sales. Restaurants don't even have enough sales right now to pay rent due to WFH order. No sales = No $$. No $$ = closure or lay offs instead of paying FWW premiums. @Gothamist@sydneyp1234
@bradlander In this unpredictable environment, NYC essential workers want more schedule flexibility right now in order to stay safe. Fair Work Week disincentivizes that. And NYC is doing nothing to help. @Gothamist@sydneyp1234
@bradlander Otherwise, employers will not approve shifts and incur the extra cost. They will simply begin laying off the staff and potentially choose to close. How does this help the essential worker? @Gothamist@sydneyp1234
@bradlander Why not have a voluntary standby list (like Oregon) that employees can choose (opt in) to standby for extra work right now if they are able to and it exempts employers from premiums? @Gothamist@sydneyp1234
@bradlander Workers are voluntarily taking precaution to stay safe and stay home. This creates opportunities for others. Why penalize employers when other employees 100% voluntarily want to pick up xtra hrs or shifts/time to cover staff shortages? @Gothamist@sydneyp1234
