Very depressing that Fonterra plans to sell off well-known consumer brands. If they go into foreign ownership, that has adverse implications for #NZ’s balance of payments. Company’s vision seems limited to being an efficient commodity producer. https://t.co/Gs9rhUSW8o
Our results imply a SCC of $1,056 per ton of carbon dioxide vs. $151/tCO2 when we estimate the model on local temperature shocks.
A business-as-usual warming scenario leads to a present value welfare loss of 31%. Both are multiple orders of magnitude above previous estimates.
𝗠𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁: A 1°C increase in global temperature leads to a 12% decline in world GDP. The response is highly statistically significant and persistent.
Thrilled to share our latest work with @AdrienBilal! Check out our new working paper:

In 2024, Calgary, the city where Seymour was claiming in 2010 that public transport would never work, has a light rail network with the 2nd-highest ridership in North America (it runs on wind-generated electricity) and the most extensive walk-and-cycle network on the continent.
Someone asked me, "if many people are gradually developing long COVID, wouldn't we see it in the economic data?" Yes, we would. And in fact we are. A few recent examples:
Goodbye rubbish bins, hello more litter
Auckland Council is removing 30% of the region’s rubbish bins from public spaces in an attempt to cut costs.
The removal of about 30% of the region’s 10,000 rubbish bins by the end of March as part of the annual budget savings target.
@DylanReeve@byroncclark I’d strongly prefer the reverse. Property ownership records should be in the clear. And trusts etc.
again if you are investigating Nazis or being stalled then that’s clearly a case for exemption.
@byroncclark I get that there are edge cases, and these should be allowed to hide, but part of the reason for transparency is to allow people to also look at the real estate records, to follow the money. Closing records is going the wrong way - we should be opening up more.
Brilliant piece from @JohnJCampbell this morning. Says everything that needs to be said and more. Thank you.

Tonight, our hearts are in Bethlehem, where the Prince of Peace is once more rejected by the futile logic of war, by the clash of arms that even today prevents him from finding room in the world. #Christmas
