We are very pleased to report that, thanks to your generosity, we have met the Oliver R. Grace Charitable Foundation $100,000 Matching Gift Challenge. We had 100+ donors participate and raised $104,000 + $100,000 = $204,000. Thank you and the Foundation for your generous support!

We have two free events at the John P. Humes Japanese Stroll Garden this month! Join us for a Bonsai exhibit this Sat (10am-2pm) and Sun (1-5pm). On 8/14 at 11am Daniel Soergel will perform traditional bamboo flute music known as Shakuhachi.

A big thank you to Volunteers for Wildlife for helping this injured killdeer we found on the beach at our Shore Road Sanctuary preserve in Cold Spring Harbor. The screaming bird had a mussel clamped around his middle toe and ended up needing a partial digit amputation.

Children enjoyed painting colorful nature-themed designs on flower pots during a North Shore Land Alliance Young Explorers Group held at the Roosevelt Community Garden last week. Following the activity, Volunteers for Wildlife gave a presentation on reptiles and mammals.

The Land Alliance would like to thank the DeGuzman family for removing 200 invasive mantis egg cases at Matheson Meadow in Lloyd Harbor and for tagging four native Carolina mantis egg cases in the meadow to prevent them from being harmed.

Dolphins were spotted swimming in Cold Spring Harbor and Oyster Bay Harbor this month! While we still have a long way to go to improve water quality on Long Island, this sighting offered us a glimmer of hope that efforts to protect our local lands and waters do make a difference.
