Meaningful work is happening at Lander University, and it was on display at the recent Campus Safety Conference hosted by the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education and Francis Marion University.
Thank you to Lander University Police Chief Greg Allen, Vice President and Chief of Staff Adam Taylor, Dr. Matthew Hammett, director of the S.C. Institute on the Prevention of Sexual Violence on College Campuses (SCIP), and Dean of Students Dave Drucker for representing Lander and engaging in important conversations about campus safety. Their efforts, including sharing our work in sexual violence prevention, are helping strengthen campuses across South Carolina.
It was a tremendous honor to receive “The Declaration of Thanksgiving and Celebration” from S.C. Chief Justice John Kittredge following Lander's spring commencement exercises.
As we approach the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, this proclamation serves as a meaningful reminder of the values that continue to shape our country and communities, including liberty, service and civic responsibility.
I am grateful to Chief Justice Kittredge and South Carolina’s leadership for sharing this with Lander. We remain committed to preparing students to lead with integrity and purpose.

I’m proud of this group for representing our University at Higher Education Day. I'm also grateful to our state leaders whose continued support creates opportunities for our students to learn and lead. At Lander, we believe in preparing students not just for careers, but for meaningful civic engagement. https://t.co/1h7JcWmvNc

Last week we kicked off the Spring 2026 semester at Lander. To our students, faculty, and staff—thank you for all you do. Here’s to a semester filled with learning, connection, and forward momentum.
It was an honor to welcome members of the South Carolina General Assembly to campus for our annual Legislative Luncheon. We shared key updates, discussed our 2026 priorities, and strengthened the partnerships that continue to support Lander’s growth.
I am proud of our Lander alumni who continue to lead and serve with distinction. Congratulations to Lt. Col. Ed Moore ’07 on his recent promotion in the U.S. Army. This accomplishment is a testament to his dedication, leadership and service to our country.
Lander Named Among Region’s Best Colleges (https://t.co/U9ZPYrvKVr)
Lander University has once again been recognized among the South’s top destinations for higher education in the 2026 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings—earning distinction as one of the top five public institutions in the Regional Colleges (South) category, as well as recognition for Top Public Schools and Best Colleges for Veterans.
Five years ago, the Bear Necessities Food Pantry opened its doors as a “dream come true” for our campus community. Today, it has grown into an essential resource serving nearly 100 students each week.
At Lander, we know that a student who is hungry cannot focus on learning. The Bear Necessities Food Pantry reflects our shared commitment to caring for one another so that every student can thrive.
Congrats to Zane Dalpe on his selection in the 2025 National Lacrosse League (@NLL) Draft! He is the first Bearcat in program history to be drafted.
Dalpe was drafted in the fifth round by the @NLLwings.

I recently had the pleasure of welcoming 29 outstanding new faculty members to the Lander University family. I told them they are just in time to teach our record-setting class of new students, so they’d better sharpen their pencils… and then I realized students haven’t used pencils since I was in college. Jokes aside, our faculty are the secret to our success—experts in their fields and in the classroom. That mix is what sets Lander apart.
