There *is* a woke 2.0, by the way, but it’s not different in any of its essential arguments or tactics. It’s still about shaming America and engineering radical change through scapegoat politics. But version 2.0 *has* shuffled the coalitional pecking order in meaningful and strategic ways.

The pinnacle of woke 1’s moral universe was the black trans woman. That was the fixed point against which everyone else had to measure up his or her value on the scale of the aggrieved. In woke 2.0, that position is now occupied by the dispossessed Palestinian liberationist.

This assimilates the “America (and Israel) is an apartheid state” narrative. It keeps whites squarely in the role of villains while broadening out the victim category to include non-white people of all kinds, whatever their relation to America’s history of slavery. (This was always a problem for woke 1: why should Nigerians get reparations when America never wronged them? Woke 2’s answer is that *all* BIPOC are the wretched of the earth.)

Shifting the center of moral gravity in this way also has the benefit of (ahem) de-centering transgenderism, which was so deranged that it became a problem even for leftist fellow travelers. Replacing the LGBT Chevron flag with the Palestinian one lets woke 2 narrow in more ruthlessly on racial and economic grievances while sidelining unpalatable sex stuff. Yes to communism, yes to solidarity with Hamas, not so much to hormone pills. Call it red light, green light. Heh.

What’s funny is that this is probably one of the only statements you could make about the whole scenario that is obviously, indisputably false. Whatever else is going on, it ain’t that.

Of course the sensation is real. You are having it. What these dopes mean is that the quality of the touch experience doesn’t exist in the object alone but “only” in the mind.

But now here is where things get interesting. If sensations that arise in the mind from our contact with things outside us aren’t real in any extra-mental sense—if they don’t describe *anything* about the outside world—what reason do we have to trust the inferences we draw from those sensations, including inferences about electrons, forces, and so on?

This is probably the most widespread way that normies interpret pop science and it completely explodes the logic of science itself. It doesn’t just mean you can’t trust your senses. It means you can’t know *anything*.

Much more plausible, and constructive, to say that the sensation is the most immediately apparent thing that happens when the mind *interprets* its contact with the outside world. Think of the world as a language and the things in it as words. Think, if you like, of a universe spoken into existence, containing creatures shaped like the speaker and equipped to understand the language.

Mental representations are like the syllables and letters of the words—not the things in themselves, it’s true, just as the sounds of words are not their meanings. But our perceptions are imbued with the nature of the things as words are imbued with meaning. Except where words are given meaning by mutual agreement among humans, our experiences are given meaning by a set of relationships hard-coded into us and our surroundings.

Only if *something* like this is going on can we confidently go about reasoning with the experiences we have and the rules of logic we find built into us, dealing in abstractions like “force” and “mass”—i.e., among other things, doing science. Basically, just to save you some time: it’s “in the beginning was the Word,” or we’re cooked.

Kimmel is an unrepentant liar who tried to blame Charlie’s assassination on the part of the country that just spent the last 2 weeks praying and holding vigils. What he’s really saying is that he still thinks it’s fair game to slander conservatives. He would rather advance his own political and cultural agenda than confront the truth. The truth is that his own side has been fanning the flames of political assassinations for years.
