if you really think about it, the way bonnie describes chan to be like a light in key’s life is definitely valid because imagine the last thing your birth mother did together with you before she d worded was stargazing while discussing about the stars and the moon. and on the day you find yourself lost in a place you don’t even know where, you tried contacting your mother/family for help but to no avail and this person called chan (which literally means the ‘moon’) pulls up out of nowhere, finds you, giving you words of encouragement to pull through whatever difficulty in life you may be facing, assures you that it will all be over soon then drives you home safe and sound. personally to me, this will be so fking unforgettable and i’d like to think it’s likewise for key. it’s really not hard to understand from key’s perspective why she fell so deeply in love for chan (it probably started out as admiration when she decided to get that tattoo hoping they would cross paths again which after years of longing and yearning for this person to appear in her life again transitioned to a one-sided love instead)
so if you separate it from the novel, i don’t really think it’s considered shallow. it’s kinda valid for chan to forget about key since she was literally so into it with jay and it probably got worse after the sudden break up with jay so why would she be randomly recalling about this day that she encountered key??
to add on, they will probably be showing some more parts of the chankey flashback and how this figure: ‘chan’ helped key cope with whatever she was dealing with back then. oh and since the part where key was holding onto a knife hasn’t been properly unfolded yet, i’m guessing she probably had su*cidal thoughts after her mother’s dea*h but remembers about chan and this person is going to be what keeps key going since she’s really really hoping to see chan again (its still early to judge the storyline so yeah this is what I think 🙂↕️
