*LEGAL NOTICE – 2025 CYBERCRIMES ACT NOW IN FORCE*

The Federal Government has officially enacted the Cybercrimes Bill into law, meaning all provisions contained in the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) acts are now fully enforceable and binding across the country.

Everyone—especially online users, content creators, and administrators of digital platforms or social media groups—must take note of the following key provisions:

Key Offenses Under the Cybercrimes Act:

1. Unauthorized Access to Devices – Section 3:
Gaining access to someone else’s phone, computer, or digital device without their permission is a criminal offense.
🛑 Punishable by up to 5 years imprisonment.

2. Tampering with Data – Section 4:
Modifying, deleting, obstructing, or interfering with another person’s digital data without lawful authority is illegal.
🛑 Punishable by up to 5 years imprisonment.

3. Disclosure of Critical Information – Section 5:
Sharing classified, sensitive, or “critical information infrastructure” with unauthorized persons is a serious offense.
🛑 Punishable by up to 15 years imprisonment.

4. Recording Private Conversations – Section 10:
Recording private discussions without proper authorization, *even if you are a participant*, violates privacy laws.
🛑 Punishable by up to 2 years imprisonment.

5. Publishing False or Misleading Information – Section 19:
Spreading fake news or publishing content that is deliberately misleading or deceptive is a criminal act.
🛑 Punishable by up to 2 years imprisonment.

6. Online Harassment and Abuse – Section 22:
Posting content that is rude, vulgar, offensive, or indecent, especially with the intent to embarrass or humiliate others, is an offense.
🛑 Punishable by up to 2 years imprisonment.

7. Inciting Ethnic Hatred or Division – Section 24:
Attempting to provoke ethnic, religious, or tribal hatred through online or offline statements amounts to domestic terrorism.
🛑 Punishable by life imprisonment.

You can be held liable for the content shared by members if you knowingly allow illegal content to be posted or fail to moderate appropriately. As such, always monitor your groups, enforce community guidelines, and avoid circulating unverified or inflammatory content.

The Nigeria Revenue Service generated N21.6tn in the first half of 2026, representing a 49% increase year-on-year, driven by sweeping tax reforms, digitalisation of tax administration and changes to oil revenue remittances.

Total tax collections rose from N12.3tn in 2023 to N21tn in 2024 and N28.3tn in 2025, while the N21.6tn generated in the first six months of 2026 represented a 49% increase over the corresponding period of 2025.

Non-oil revenue accounted for 76% of total collections, while Nigeria’s tax-to-GDP ratio improved from 10.3% to 13%.

NRS revenue target for 2026 is N40.7 trillion. Clearly on course to surpass the target

₦25.05 billion. A 35-month pension liability. 9,675 former NITEL/MTEL workers who had waited long enough.

In August 2025, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved the funds to clear this inherited obligation. The funding was provided under the 2026 Appropriation Act. Today, that debt is being fully settled.

And that is not all.

Another ₦9.48 billion has been paid as the initial 50% of Back End Computation arrears to 3,959 eligible PHCN pensioners, while ₦5.09 billion has cleared the final 50% balance of the 10.66% and 12.95% pension increment arrears owed to 11,180 eligible pensioners of Assurance Bank, NICON, NITEL and People’s Bank.

Total: ₦39.63 billion.

There is, of course, an irony too delicious to ignore.

One of the loudest men now auditioning to rescue Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar @atiku of the ADC, once chaired the National Council on Privatisation in the years when NITEL was dragged through one botched sale after another, one failed arrangement after another, one management fiasco after another, including the infamous Pentascope management contract.

The arrangements collapsed. NITEL collapsed. Workers were left with the consequences.

Even Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has publicly acknowledged the succession of failed NITEL sales and turnaround arrangements.

The deals failed. The company died. The workers waited.

Now, more than two decades later, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is paying the human bill left behind, including a ₦25.05 billion, 35-month pension liability owed to the people who had waited long enough.

That is the difference between selling an asset and settling a debt. Between making arrangements and taking responsibility.

Some people sold the future and left the workers a bill.

President Tinubu is paying the bill.

Promises are easy. Pensions are not.

Paid. Settled. Closed.
