the whole ‘i’m just a girl’ ‘explain palestine but for the girls’ thing is just a way for privileged western women to disassociated themselves from any adult moral duty and responsibility. they’d rather just be complacent in their ignorance. it’s lazy and embarrassing. grow up.
especially on the production side.. I know d*sney production employees were trying to unionize, I don’t think that’s come to fruition yet?
but TAG writers definitely need the same fervor & rights as the WGA is fighting for like yesterday, animation pay is absolutely abysmal
I would say I’m pumped about TAG members having the ability to strike soon but that would require these animation studios to actually normally employ & pay union rates 🤪
FOR THOSE KEEPING SCORE:
☻ WGA has stopped picketing
☻ WGA is still on strike pending the deal (congrats!!)
☻ SAG-AFTRA is still striking
☻ SAG-AFTRA is still picketing
☻ The Animation Guild contract expires July 31, 2024
i would take late 90s/early 00s girl power feminism over the bullshit crypto-right-wing capitalist gender conformist schlock getting pushed today. i was getting more meaningful messages of empowerment as a fucking girl scout during the bush administration
@RealGDT people w/ a lapsed religious background always bring a uniqueness to their art, esp when it comes to horror & even more when it involves the supernatural/aliens/larger messages re: society. NOWSY combines all of that in a fun way & its cool to see professionals recognize that
@RealGDT during an early screening of this, the writer/director Brian Duffield specifically brought up how his family’s missionary background informed his filmmaking, incl specifically for the aliens’ intelligent + omnipresent presence + how they viewed/respected/rewarded her perseverance
