With the recent terrific stories about Col. Roy A. Knight, Jr. coming home from Laos, read how @dodpaa never gave up searching for him. They led missions in 1991, 1992, and 1994, finally recovering remains in 2019 https://t.co/7V80ctKM69
@dodpaa Then go read about the other A-1 Skyraider pilots who flew missions in Laos while the US officially denied fighting there. Many of those Skyraiders were flying for CIA, like "Zip" Rausa, who a couple years ago let me sit in his kitchen and take notes https://t.co/CkhxVQa64m
BRINGING HOME A HERO...
Col. Roy A. Knight Jr. was shot down May 19, 1967, as he led an airstrike in northern Laos. He was declared dead in September 1974 after search and rescue efforts had failed. https://t.co/Rie96wxBNy
This was a homecoming the Knight family has waited years for.
Earlier this year, Roy Knight Jr.'s remains were identified in Laos. And on Thursday, the veteran's journey came full circle. https://t.co/jcqqYlwoT2

July 5th is the feast of Blessed Joseph Boissel: Breton Catholic priest, Marian oblate, missionary to the Hmong, Tai Dam, and Khmu of Laos, and martyr—murdered by communists on this day in 1969.
Pa Lee says her father served with the CIA in Laos to fight a losing battle against Communism, but he and half the other Hmong vets in the U.S. would stillnot be eligible for burial in American national cemeteries under the bill the president signed last year.
A bill signed into law in 2018 allows Hmong vets of U.S. Secret war in Laos to be buried in American VA national cemeteries, but Hmong vets say there’s technical shortfalls. Among them, Hmong who became citizens before year 2000 are not eligible -Pang Mang Thao, Pres. MN Lao Vets
William Lee, right, worked with CIA 1960 to 1975 to block Ho Chi Minh trail in Laos to North Vietnamese. When US pilots crashed in Laotian jungle, he +150 Hmong would go out to rescue pilot. He’s not eligible for VA benefits or VA burial even under 2018 Service Recognition Act.
This soldier came from Hartford, Connecticut. Others will travel from Fresno, Denver area, Providence, etc for Saturday’s 4th annual Lao Hmong Veterans National Conference in St. Paul.
