LAUSD families & community members advocating for common-sense, cost-effective safety at school: safe air (12 ACH), outdoor eating, and smarter testing.
We're thrilled to be partnering with @NISDSotomayor to build DIY air filters and measure air pollution benefits for #CleanAirDayCA! We’re proud to join students across the state who are coming together to clear the air. Join us: https://t.co/OEFQsgzNXd
1. 'Northland emergency doctor Gary Payinda said some viruses, which used to cause barely a sniffle in healthy adults, were now putting people in hospital.

We’d LOVE to work with @LASchools and @UTLAnow on HEPA) filters for every room. (Our principal was in the classroom today bc we don’t have enough subs, my kid is sick for the 2nd time this year. The absences are real right now).
We now have tantalising RCT evidence that HEPA filtration significantly reduced pupil absences in schools (p27 link below👇) during a large COVID-19 epidemic.
This is from the Classroom ACT study lead by Professor @CathNoakes.

No insurance required. You also get access to telehealth, as well as free treatment (if eligible).

"Ventilated, clean air [has a role] in preventing the spread of COVID, and research shows that improved air filtration and ventilation can also increase employee performance and productivity as well as improve test scores and teacher retention rates." https://t.co/nRnq56DHzt
Exactly the same experience at my kids (private) school. Effective filtration and ventilation stops outbreaks. Right now only the rich who send their kids to private schools get to enjoy this perk, but this is cheap and easy to implement everywhere. There's no excuse.
@martacostello@LAUSDSup I just want HEPAs promoted by the District to teachers and principals as part of the Excellent Attendance Initiative. Because they ARE! They’re an amazing and simple tool for health and learning! Cc @UTLAnow
We’re in a wave. @LAUSDSup we have no reporting, no dashboard, no protection, and *promotion* of sick kids in class. How is this ACTUALLY working out for attendance, learning, test scores, & budgets? We could minimally promote masks, tests & get HEPAs in all rooms
It's interesting that groups that have gone on about the impacts of school closure say very little about the v. high rates of persistent absences (>10% of school missed) among children- mostly due to illness. 25% of children persistently absent in autumn 2022 in England
Hey Team #COVIDisAirborne - I'm gathering lesson plans schools can use to teach students about the importance of indoor air quality.
All grade levels.

1/ Have you been waiting out this surge, hoping to get a fall booster ASAP? Well too bad. The CDC's ACIP want to limit access to ages 75+, pregnant or immunocompromised. No schoolkids. No LC patients. No families who want safer holidays together. COMMENTS DUE TOMORROW (links)
They killed monitoring.
So? We have Walgreens, and this.
If nothing else, comment, "I support nationwide wastewater surveillance. Please make sure the public continues to have access to the data."
I just commented- join me?

Over the last few weeks in NY:
➡️Several hospitals reinstated their mask mandate
➡️NYC added free KN95 masks to public health vending machines
➡️NYC council members supported a new free mask bill
➡️NYS announced a free N95/KN95 mask & test program for schools
Organizing works!
@keetmuise No masks or testing required OR EVEN SUGGESTED for these "mildly sick" kids who come to school. And yes, there's lots of covid and general illness at our schools now, to the surprise of absolutely no one. https://t.co/rHaO5UVOr5
