What will these city dwelling councillors dream up next? If you live in a rural village, schools & shops are often several miles away. Are mums with 3 kids going to do a 10-14 mile round trip twice a day on bikes? Continued.. https://t.co/I0BcFiu1Pg
Increasing the minimum wage by more than inflation every year is great.
Those workers will take the money they earn and go spend it with local businesses, thereby boosting the economy.
Don’t listen to naysayers with doom and gloom economic theories that this will cause layoffs and actually make everybody collectively worse off.
Just because this is precisely what happens every time does not mean it will happen this time.
So given the infallible theory that increasing minimum wage as much as possible is obviously great and has no negative repercussions like people on that minimum wage being able to afford less stuff despite the minimum wage increasing…
I propose we go ahead and increase the minimum wage to £1,000 per minute.
It is time for lift everyone out of poverty once and for all. 👍
Rachel - seeing as you are demonstrating that you don't understand basic economics, let me enlighten you.
Interest rates are lowered by the Bank of England when:
1. Economy is doing badly (to stimulate it)
2. Unemployment increasing (to try and halt it)
3. Inflation spike finishes (high rates no longer needed to manage inflation)
Currently #1 and #2 are both happening. The UK Economy has contracted for 2 months in a row + we are seeing the biggest job losses since 2008 happening.
The inflation spike and its reversal happened long before your Government came into power.
In fact the latest inflation figure today is 4.1% while in June 2024 it was 2.8% and the main reason why inflation is going back up is your tax and anti-business policies.
Taking credit for interest rates being cut at the moment is a bit like celebrating that your car has a very short stopping distance just after you crashed it into a tree.
URGENT HELP NEEDED! My adored and beloved white Saab 900 Turbo T16 was stolen from London W5 last night sometime between 23:00 yesterday and 12:00 today. If anyone has been it around PLEASE let me know. Absolutely gutted. J159CGC #PleaseRT
Look at it another way -
“If, simply by sitting 20mins longer on a train every day, I could magically create:
693 local wildlife sites
108 Ancient Woodlands
33 legally protected SSSIs
18 Wildlife Trust Nature Reserves
5 Internationally protected Wildlife sites
Being from both worlds myself, I have to say I see some horrific cycling and horrific driving these days.
It’s the law of averages when I step in a car, or onto a bike unfortunately.
People are generally just selfish entities 🤷🏻♂️
Millions of people are struggling to deal with this crisis, some are in a very dark place.
I know I've found it difficult and mental health is a very fragile thing.
We all have to be more aware, myself included, of our words and their impact.
Here’s a game of spot the difference. 1) @dailymail ‘s pic of me & my dad 2) the actual picture. Socially distant, no physical contact & was bringing them food. Been a long month of no contact, my mum worked for the NHS her whole career so she was ruthless about distance. Thanks
