@DGLAPSSET joined H.E. President William Ruto in inspecting the progress of the 257-kilometre Lamu–Ijara–Garissa Road, a critical component of the 453-kilometre @LAPSSETCorridorDevelopment Project, during the President's development tour of Wajir and Garissa counties.
The KSh17.9 billion road project, which is expected to be completed early next year, will enhance connectivity between #LamuPort and Northern Kenya, strengthen regional integration, improve security, and serve as a strategic evacuation route for #LamuPort.
The renewed momentum around Turkana oil validates the long-term strategic importance of the #LAPSSETCorridor. With large-scale oil production such as Kenya’s current overall target of over 500 million barrels and South Sudan’s about 100,000 barrels a day, an integrated Transport system remains central to export competitiveness, industrial growth, and Regional Trade Integration.

With almost 4 million visitors in national parks alone and an overall growth of 6.2% in 2025, the Tourism sector has remained a key contributor to Kenya’s GDP. This is why the Master-planned resort cities are a key pillar of the LAPSSET vision. Planned for Lamu(Mokowe), Isiolo(Kipsing gap), and the Lake Turkana region(Kalokol), these cities are designed to stimulate tourism, attract investment and turn the areas into tourism growth hubs.

Globally, major Trade Corridors often take 10–30 years before full economic returns become visible because ports depend on wider ecosystems of trade, industry, logistics, and regional integration. #LAPSSETCorridor holds a strong strategic potential, performing well compared to similar projects around the world. With financial activation, a challenge many projects face as they go along, it is gradually emerging and meeting the region’s needs, standing out as the long -term Economic Transformer.

A Billion shilling Frontier and a Multiplier
Northern Kenya, the underdeveloped region is a B-shilling frontier, that will spiral Kenya’s economy upwards when empowered through key infrastructure.
Consider this: Livestock economy contributes about 12% to Kenya’s GDP, and about 70% of Kenya’s livestock is found in Northern Kenya.
Kenyan exports? Roughly 500 tonnes of meat weekly.
The Turkana Wind Power is supplying about 10% of Kenya’s electricity, and the county is also rich in millions of Oil barrels to be extracted by end of 2026.
From local to cross-border commerce and global trade, Northern Kenya is not waiting for economic activity to begin. Trade is already happening, and #LAPSSET is the multiplier that will implement up to 10% increase to Kenya's GDP.
