If the Mayor of New York followed accounts whose whole purpose is denigrating white people or locals, and kept getting caught tweeting recklessly while knee deep in tribal politics, he wouldn't be a Mayor today. So spare us the comparison.
Lagos has appointed non indigenes as commissioners. That doesn't fit your narrative.
Lagos has non indigenes representing it in the House of Reps. That doesn't fit either.
But the moment Gbadebo isn't endorsed, it's suddenly "people love their chains."
This is exactly why the toxicity keeps festering: false, lazy equivalences, and no sense of when to stop.
And honestly, what makes Gbadebo a savior? Based on what record? It seems the only qualification needed is being anti APC.
Vamoose
“Without Nigerian government saying pim”
The majority of Ndigbo including traditional leaders and almost everybody were sympathetic to Kanu, Ekpa, ESN (known gunmen), IPOB etc
Imagine shouting about a "good alternative" while doing heavy PR for someone who drops "Afonja" like a local tribalistic banger boy, follows known bigots, and doubles as an IPOB apologist.
If they actually cared about real governance, that energy would be on Funsho Doherty.
You use your supposed hatred of the APC as a decoy to make snide remarks at Yorubas and the Southwest but APC currently governs 31 out of the 36 States of the Federation.
Right now, the APC governs 4 out of the 5 States of the South Eastern States, in the South South, the party governs 6 out of the 6 States, it governs 7 out of 7 in the North West, 5 out of 6 in the North East, 6 out of 6 in the North Central, in the South West, it governs 4 out of 6, the lowest in any geopolitical zone.
They govern you in your States and your people vote for them in the local government election but it’s the Yorubas that you make snide remarks at. You hide under the guise of politics and denigrate a tribe just like you did to the Fulanis and Northerners when Buhari was President. If they handover the platform of the APC to your “Messiah” now, 99% of you will change mouth and join APC just like you hail Malami and El Rufai after your candidate joined the failed coalition.
When the Presidency goes back to the North, you will face them again and call them names for another 8 years.
If he learned Yoruba overnight and spoke it like Abija, the people attacking him still wouldn't vote for him.
If he stopped learning tomorrow and told everyone to go to hell, the people planning to vote for him wouldn't change their minds either.
Political decisions run deeper than your sermons on social media. Nobody cares what you think about their candidate, and no election is won or lost over these arguments.
Get your PVC and vote for your candidate.
When I speak in a French or German speaking country, I open in French or German. Then, a few lines in, I tell the audience I would prefer to continue in English. It works like magic.
It is my way of speaking to the heart of the people. They expected a man who would address them in English. Instead, they meet one who took the time to learn their language. The words that follow are meant for their minds. Those first few sentences are meant for their hearts.
Anyone who tells you language does not matter, in politics or in any human interaction, is doing one of three things. They are trying to fool you. They are trying to gaslight you. Or they simply do not know what they are saying.
Language sits at the root of human nature. We process it with the oldest parts of our brain. That is why, in a foreign land, the sound of your mother tongue arrests your attention before you have decided to listen. It is not your fault. It is being human.
Will speaking a people's language guarantee good policies? No. I assure you it will not. Policy is a different matter entirely. And it must be engaged for what it is.
But language matters. Simple as that.
Everyone knows this. Everyone. Even the Obidients of this world. So, imagine a normal human being pretending not to.
The most foolish set of individuals in this discourse are the ones who really believed MC Oluomo will become Lagos state governor one day.
Eti gor ju, Olorun gbo 😭
Health care costs barely a thousand naira monthly in Lagos, infact for civil servants it's #800 per month for a family of 6.
Public schools are free in Lagos.
Lmaoooooooo 😭😂🤣 But we are all on Duolingo, learning foreign languages as adults and becoming fluent with enough dedication. But no, a gubernatorial candidate of a state doesn’t need to know how to communicate in the state’s local language because he is the SI unit of good governance. 😭🤦♀️
Let’s talk about GRV’s record, competence, history of Leadership. Let’s even pretend to forget the Language. On what basis is GRV the most competent among the aspirants ?
In Nigeria? Genuine human connections. People are out to get each other because the country has gotten really bad and they are operating from a place of survival.
Government is a continuum, what he is saying is not out of place, Our prayer in Lagos is always that any Governor that comes after each Governor will continue to do better for the people of the State, The Deputy Governor @drobafemihamzat has consistently spoken about the current work of this administration which he will continue, most especially on the Blue and Red Line Rail projects, The OMI EKO project and many more that Governor @jidesanwoolu has done, that still doesn’t stop him from bringing in new ideas too, as far as the people of Lagos benefit positively.
