Can anyone explain how this is even remotely possible?
I thought sunsetting meant the content was all gone and entirely inaccessible, but that’s not the case?
Either way, amazingly bittersweet to see this again, can’t wait for the rest!
Been looking into more cut content from the "What Remains" server.
The EDZ was being developed for D1 and was intended to launch alongside the base game as an endgame/pinnacle location with Fallen & Cabal enemies while INTRODUCING THE TAKEN.
Plans apparently shifted and the destination got moved to be released with comet01 (the expansion slot which became The Taken King). It would've been part of a $60 expansion with the destinations EDZ and Europa.
Of course plans shifted again and it got moved to launch with D2 instead.
I find it so interesting how the EDZ was supposed to be a sort of pinnacle zone and how it was where we'd originally meet the Taken. Especially considering in D2 it was our starter zone.
Based on the files too it seemed to be a destination which would open up over time, or get progressively harder as you went deeper. "ghost_town" bubbles looking to be starting areas progressing to "forest" and "shard" bubbles being more endgame.
Below I have some screenshots from the server. There's a ton more in the server so I highly recommend joining and checking it out to get the full picture on what D1 EDZ was supposed to be. All extremely interesting stuff.
my favorite era of destiny was when it felt like we were dead things killing to protect a dead god to protect a dead civilization. a death rattle that refused to end. windchimes was perfect
