A woman from Akwa Ibom State brought a complaint to Brekete Family concerning her ex-husband.

She explained that she met him in Abuja, and they later got married. According to her, the marriage became abusive shortly after the wedding, which led her to seek a divorce.

After the divorce, she focused on rebuilding her life. She started a business, bought land, and built her own house, which was close to completion.

She said that after meeting her former sister-in-law and mentioning that she had built a house, her ex-husband suddenly reappeared and pleaded for reconciliation. She eventually agreed to give the relationship another chance.

However, she alleged that the mistreatment continued. She further claimed that he later began seeing other women and eventually forced her out of the house she built, before marrying another woman. She said he and his new wife are currently living in the property she developed.

The matter was brought before the Ordinary President, who invited the man to the studio. During the intervention, he was given ₦150,000 to immediately secure alternative accommodation and was given a deadline to vacate the woman’s house.

The case highlights issues surrounding domestic disputes, property rights, and post-divorce conflicts, while emphasizing peaceful resolution and accountability.

The unfortunate and dishonourable drama witnessed in Ibom Air has again brought to the fore the double standards in our lives and the inadequacies of our various security operatives in acting decently and in a civilised manner.

I want to start by sincerely apologising to the Ibom Air crew who were assaulted by Miss Comfort Emmanson. We must, as a society, learn and uphold good conduct, as it is a true measure of success and decent living.

However, I must equally strongly condemn the dehumanising treatment meted out to this young woman. Stripping her publicly was not only unnecessary but also represents the height of rascality and abuse by our agencies. It is unacceptable that she was hurriedly taken to court and remanded, while someone who visibly held a plane from taking off and put hundreds of lives at risk is still at large, with government agencies and some state officials speaking up for him to be forgiven.

This case is not just about one young woman, it is about the double standards that poison our justice system. Justice in Nigeria must never be about who is poor or powerless versus who has influence or access to government officials.

While Ms. Comfort Emmanson is in jail, the other offender who committed a more severe offence has not been held to the same standard. He has neither been arrested nor arraigned in any court.

We must build a country where justice is fair, equal, and not selective, especially against women who are seen to be weaker. This young lady’s offence does not compare to the crimes committed daily by those parading themselves as “excellencies” while looting public funds without consequence, and yet they have not been stripped or dehumanised in the name of justice.

We must end this selective treatment of the poor or less privileged. If justice must be served, it should be served to all, and it must be served fairly. The Minister of Aviation and other relevant authorities owe the public an explanation for these double standards in their adjudication.
Justice must be just, or it is nothing at all.

The rule of law based on justice for all must remain the guidepost of our democracy.

Nigeria desperately needs good governance. We have been lacking for years.

People are dying steadily in the hospital just because of the negligence of the doctors and nurses.
For some of these doctors and nurses, the level of their “I don't care” attitude is a big echo-proof that nobody or no agency is checkmating them.

This is not a matter of hearsay; it is something I have experienced firsthand with my father. And my biggest happiness and flex is that the nurse has gone to join my father. (onye-kote-Obulu).

Now, this is 100% a system issue because if there is a right and worthy system in place where escaping consequences is not possible or at least almost not possible, tell me why a nurse will be showing you attitude just because you woke her up from her sleep to attend to an accident victim?

Nigeria needs a good government that will scrap 99% of the system that Nigeria is structured on.

Many people who have died in the hospital had a 99% chance of surviving, but because of the failed system, which promotes incompetence and negligence, we have lost loved ones and great ones.

But is it ending soon? Nahhh... because the people who are supposed to ensure the system runs smoothly are more focused on power and position.
