I LOVED Day 6 (lanternfish). It's fun when they make you actually be efficient lol. Every fish with the same number undergoes the same transformations, so I kept track of how many of each per day. Is there any way to do this one without a second structure to keep track of state?
Day 5 (line coverage) was a fun one- part 1 I got very quickly. I knew they were gonna hit us with diagonals for part 2. Took some tinkering to get the math right. This would be a good one to do visually, and I know my code could be a lot simpler.
Day 4 (bingo) took me a weirdly long time. The algorithm was brute force basically but for a while I was getting two winning boards. I suspected I wasn't detecting one of the win conditions, so I wrote some unit tests. That was the issue- I was checking vertical winners wrong.
Last year I did #AdventOfCode mostly in functional Scala- I'll probably revert to that when the problems start getting more challenging because it's much cleaner than Python for complex input processing tasks.
I'm participating in Advent of Code for the second year, just finished Day 1. These start off pretty simple and really start getting hard mid-month.
