The Trump administration has disbanded a group to fight Russian oligarchs - Reuters
The U.S. Justice Department has stopped working to enforce sanctions and prosecute Kremlin-linked businessmen, the publication reported.
The Price of Indifference: How much money did NEXTA receive from USAID? And who cares about Europe?
America is tired of "saving the world." The White House published a list of USAID's most ridiculous expenditures:
- Hundreds of thousands of dollars went to nonprofits linked to terrorists.
- Hundreds of millions were spent on irrigation in Afghanistan, now used for heroin production.
- $47,000 for a "transgender opera" in Colombia.
- $32,000 for "transgender comics" in Peru.
- $2 million for LGBTQ+ activism in Guatemala.
- $1.5 million for "promoting inclusivity" in Serbia.
- $6 million for tourism development in Egypt.
The American taxpayers' budget has been squandered on projects that are, to put it mildly, questionable. And the White House decided it was time to stop it.
But there’s another side to this story.
The closure of USAID didn’t just cut funding for controversial programs—it also endangered real assistance:independent media, support programs for war victims in Ukraine, and human rights initiatives are all now at risk.
NEXTA has never received a cent from USAID. We are not defending the reckless spending of billions. We believe that budgetary funds should be allocated efficiently and rationally. If the U.S. is no longer willing to support Europe, then be ready for the consequences.
Russia has long been expanding its propaganda influence in Europe, spending billions, and will gladly continue to do so. When the resulting vacuum is filled, it does not bring peace - it brings another war. History has proven this many times.
How much does indifference cost?
America has decided it won’t pay anymore. Fine, let’s do the math:
- One Javelin missile—$230,000. That’s almost the annual budget of some independent media outlets.
- One Abrams tank—up to $10 million.
- One Patriot system—$1 billion, with each missile costing millions.
And how much does it cost to rebuild a country after war? Ukrainians, Syrians, Georgians, Moldovans—and many others—know that price.
For years, European politicians spoke about "fighting Russian propaganda," "defending human rights," and "protecting free speech." But now that U.S. support is disappearing, they’ve shown they have nothing to replace it with. Everything was built on American grants.
Where are Europe’s alternative programs to support independent media? Europe could create a funding system with strict accountability and quality control.
Europe has the money.
Europe has the resources.
What Europe doesn’t have—is the will.
And while European leaders wait for someone else to solve their problems, someone else already has. And it’s not someone they’ll want to see.
REPORTER: Do you have any concerns that your commentary about things you described as common sense or your observations could in any way interfere with the thorough investigation of the crash?
TRUMP: No. I think they'll do an investigation and it'll probably come out the way I said it ... I was right on all of it.
