At Nakaale grounds in Nakapiripirit District, Karamoja Sub-region, I have joined the workers of Uganda to officiate and celebrate the International Labour Day Celebrations. This year's celebrations are organised under the theme: “Consolidating the gains of the Parish Development Model for Increased Productivity and Inclusive Job Creation”.
We will tackle minimum wage issues, the tripartite arrangement, and casual labour, as well as scrutinise employment agencies that exploit workers by acting as intermediaries between them and employers. Our approach will be consultative and rational. We will also scrutinise institutions that have historically prioritised foreign labour over local talent. Why should foreign companies import their own workers when Ugandans are capable of performing these jobs? We must face these challenges as they are and engage with the sector more realistically.
I wish all the workers a Happy Labour Day. Alakara Noi!
Enshoni is a Runyankore word that refers to a deterrent for wrongdoing. Enshoni-nkye is shamelessness and in the Ugandan case, it applies to the opposition and their sympathisers. In Nakapiripirit, we have put the Alayerer (shameless people) to shame.
The Labour Union members who were in Entebbe until late drove to Nakapiripirit before me, pointing to good roads and security. Health( immunisation has seen the population increase), electricity, and dams say the situation is improving. Irrespective of mistakes in some Ministries, like Works where old road maintenance is neglected, like in the case of the Mityana-Mubende road, once a road is tarmacked, it will not be allowed to deteriorate.
I joined forces with @Mglsd staff this evening to inspect employment centers supported by our Juakali Sente Economy project. We donated vital equipment to various businesses last financial year , including salons, washing bays, bars, restaurants, events companies, and art sector enterprises. Our inspection covered over 10 locations in the central region, spanning Sentama, Bwaise, Wandegeya, and more.
Our mission is to continually assess and inspect government-backed businesses, ensuring top-notch performance and accountability. The Juakali project aims to empower and boost the labor force from 34% to over 55%. Despite limited resources, we've made a significant impact, covering over 99 districts so far.
Together, we're committed to empowering our communities and enhancing productivity. @Parliament_Ug@GovUganda@Mglsd_UG
