@0ofborg I don't know enough about discord e-girl grifters, but from my knowledge of those first three, I'd hedge towards the opposite reaction. Anything that portrays the struggles and realities of lower class 'degenerates' is anathema to them. Especially from a place like Japan.
@LyxPar@Novus_Prime1 and if you really thought that last part, why are we even having this conversation. Why did you join in on discussing something you don't care about?
@LyxPar@Novus_Prime1 It's almost verbatim what they have told me in conversation. They like Evangelion and TTGL, but not other mecha because those shows "do things differently", when that's just categorically untrue, and haven't bothered checking other shows to see if they even like them.
@LyxPar@Novus_Prime1 Those people really exist, and not just online. I work with a bunch of 20 somethings who have only watched a smattering of those shows, liked them, and said to me "I don't really care for mecha" on the basis that those shows do something different.
@LyxPar@Novus_Prime1 No, the reason that statement has become a joke is literally because people who say "Evangelion isn't like other mecha" or "Unlike other mecha, Evangelion focuses on the characters" have in fact watched 3 mecha shows at most, the others being Code Geass and TTGL.
@nekomyancer The problem with takes like this is they just ignore the history of Fandom and fan spaces, which were ways chock-full of yhe craziest motherfuckers you would ever see and talk about the modern weirdos as if they are a recent phenomenon.
