Getting into philosophy is the biggest mistake I have made in my life. Hopelessly separated me from the concrete at a time when I desperately needed to be more in touch with it. Kept me in the clouds for years while my real life rotted away. You should only touch that stuff if you’re already an old man, like heroin.
My greatest strength may well be my extreme inability to coerce myself into doing work I don’t find interesting.
At DeepMind I was meant to work on RLHF but mostly did philosophy about AGI risk.
At OpenAI my attention wandered so much that I wrote a whole book of short stories.
@waifuterf Because race dysphoria doesn't exist. If it did exist to the same degree gender dysphoria does, then maybe we would use racial identifiers in a similar way (e.g. calling a person born white who painted their skin black a black person).
I am stuck in a loop where I want to make connections to fix my social anxiety but the shame of people knowing how embarrassing my life is is making me withdraw more. On the other hand, if I don't make connections first it's unlikely to get better. Brutal.
