One of the most celebrated and beloved actresses of the twentieth century, Dame Maggie Smith has left an indelible legacy on British stage and screen. While Smith has played many dramatic roles to acclaim over seven decades, including winning an Oscar for ‘The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie’, she is well-remembered for her comic timing and sly humour.
Dame Maggie Smith’s talent assured her a long and prolific career which will live long in our collective imagination. Her contribution to British theatre and film will be forever celebrated through the V&A Theatre and Performance Collection, from her costume as Lady Bracknell from ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’ at Aldwych Theatre, to a recording of her performance in ‘Three Tall Women’ at Wyndham’s Theatre in 1995. Our condolences to her family and friends.
