@willis_macp Yep, absolutely absurd. England captain not out overnight, perfect cricket weather, not a ball bowled and spectators left uninformed and bewildered throughout the day.
V&A East is the London museum’s cooler, younger outpost
Rowan Moore writes that the building’s bold Balenciaga-inspired design by O’Donnell + Tuomey hopes to attract visitors put off by the pomp of old-fashioned museums

Haven't had much drawing time lately but finally got time to work on this - @reeve_tim do you recognise this? Finished version soon, hopefully! I hope you enjoy #drawingoftheday
I am deeply honoured to be made CBE in The King’s Birthday Honours, for services to museums.
I have been fortunate to spend nearly 30 years at 2 great national cultural institutions - English Heritage and the V&A - working with many ambitious, committed and creative people 🙏

London is home to the world’s greatest museums.
This weekend we’ve seen another open—the revolutionary V&A East Storehouse.
City Hall has invested £600m in East Bank, which has created 2,500 jobs and delivered a £1.5bn economic boost.
Very grateful to @edwinheathcote@FT for such a thoughtful and generous review of @vam_east Storehouse: “…a genuinely radical new museum…representing a huge shift in museology”
Backed by major City Hall investment, it’s opening up one of the world’s great collections to Londoners and visitors in bold new ways. An exciting moment for the East Bank and culture in London.

The V&A Storehouse will give Londoners and visitors free access to an extraordinary collection of creative works, from Roman artefacts to modern-day music archives.
I was delighted to see final preparations being made before it opens its doors to the public on Saturday.
Proud to be supporting the V&A East Storehouse - a groundbreaking new museum at East Bank, opening up behind the scenes access to world-class art, design and performance for the first time ever.
Opening this weekend! ⬇️

A week today (31 May), @vam_east Storehouse finally throws open its doors to the public.
Here’s a first view of one of the most ambitious, anticipated, yet controversial exhibits, courtesy of @wallpapermag: the three storey section of facade salvaged from Robin Hood Gardens in Poplar, East London, and shown at Venice Biennale in 2018.
The twelve and a half tonne concrete structure was the first and most complex exhibit installed within the new Storehouse building. A nationally important and internationally recognised work of Brutalist architecture and social housing, Robin Hood Gardens was designed by Alison and Peter Smithson and completed in 1972.
C20 Society mounted a long and vigorous campaign to save the building, yet the final section was demolished in 2025 as part of the redevelopment of the area.
There is an aggressor: Russia.
There is a victim: Ukraine.
We were right to help Ukraine and sanction Russia three years ago—and to keep doing so.
By “we,” I mean the Americans, the Europeans, the Canadians, the Japanese, and many others.
Thank you to all who have helped and continue to do so. And respect to those who have been fighting since the beginning—because they are fighting for their dignity, their independence, their children, and the security of Europe.
Big and welcome news for one of the most successful and impactful parts of the UK economy, firing the creative and visitor economies for the benefit of millions across the country and around the world.
People across the nation are set to gain more access to culture where they live with a major funding package announced by Culture Secretary @lisanandy today. This includes financial support for arts venues, museums, libraries, and heritage
