@xwanyex “Wow, people of different [insert identity characteristic here] have very polarized political opinions. Obviously, this means one of those groups should have their voting rights removed.” I am baffled at how one even makes this leap.
@xwanyex Polarization along identity lines does not mean that certain identity groups should no longer get to vote. That ignores what causes polarization and would make the polarization worse, while also worsening quality of life for the disenfranchised identity group.
@mntwinsrachel Oh my god, I didn’t take a pic but my outfit was literally identical. I wish I had run into you. Same shirt, tied the same way, denim shorts. Exact same.
@isaiah_bb Sarah Longwell has talked about how in her focus groups, Republicans tend to use "I am" statements to describe why they're a Republican. Democrats tend to use "I believe." When your party affiliation is based on "I am," it's a lot stickier. Evangelicals are the prime example.
@leon78431@allie__voss This is because left wing people and people with left wing social circles are more willing and safely able to come out. Right wing people and people with right wing social circles are more likely to suppress it due to social risk. Which is bad.
@allie__voss People think bisexual people are “faking it” because of statistics. Our dating pool is ~90% opposite gender/~10% same gender so statistically most of us date the opposite gender. It doesn’t make us not bisexual and it’s pretty rude to say that most bi women are pretending.
@lance_corporate@texasrunnerDFW Schools are far from the only public service.
I also pay for schools I don’t use, and I know that smart, healthy kids leads to a better society which leads to a better life for me. And I get to vote on school board members because I live in a democracy. Pretty sweet deal.
@lance_corporate@texasrunnerDFW You’ve been so radicalized by propaganda that you’ve forgotten what it means to live in community.
Go buy some abandoned land in the deep forest and stop using public services. Live your principles.
@lance_corporate@texasrunnerDFW Wow, you mean you'd be willing to pay an entity that provides services! What about an entity where you get to elect the people who run it based on your priorities? We could call it...government.
Congratulations, you've invented democratic government from first principles.
