How do you make sense of stay-at-home parenting in a culture that values achievement above all else?
For me, with our faith's contemplative tradition.
My latest in @americamag (would so appreciate if you'd pass this along to a new mom in your life):

For an even more in-depth understanding why, I highly, HIGHLY recommend listening to @pursuedbytruth and @Danielleshabit's podcast, Descent into Light. (Actually, just listen to it regardless.) https://t.co/NWs8IFZ19E
File under "didn't know what I didn't know": Writing this article for @PillarCatholic about the Deaf Catholic community turned out to be far more complicated—and fascinating!—an endeavor than I anticipated. Read here: https://t.co/rHh554yKli
I wrote about the poetry of W.H. Davies, the desert fathers, Ratzinger, and my penchant for staring out of windows in the @TheFP this morning https://t.co/CEatxAOiCV
Yes! And might I suggest starting by taking up more quiet in your day as a Lenten discipline? Wrote this for @americamag last year: https://t.co/2AENgrqlYv
Some thoughts on smartphones and the spiritual life for @AngelusNews (with assists from the work of @CCamosy, @JonHaidt , and Fr. Christopher Seith of @WashArchdiocese) https://t.co/soQzSAG8W6
“‘The abuse happened, but the healing is happening too,’ said Hoffman. ‘Both realities can be true.’”
My latest for @PillarCatholic — a group of clerical abuse survivors are behind an effort to create a National Healing Garden. Read about it here: https://t.co/GETfEOKCC1
I'd go so far as to say that this is the *only* way to keep your friendships. If not the actual regular time (e.g., first Monday of the month hang), then at least the expectation (e.g., we will have dinner monthly and be in touch to schedule it) is needed, in my experience.
Wrote about the Society of St. Vincent de Paul for @PillarCatholic. Great example of subsidiarity: Members visit people *in their homes* to learn more about what they need and why. https://t.co/xtifdaJiXZ
The Diocese of Charleston has an Office of Spiritual Directors. Interesting, replicable model to make spiritual direction more accessible: https://t.co/PX14qspJQr
V true @SaraPerla8. We need to stop dunking on older Catholics who were formed during a period of massive upheaval/confusion—even if some of their conclusions are objectively wrong. It’s counter-productive, divisive, and often motivated by baseless pride. https://t.co/RByjhxqOoU
