The rise of self-publishing is quite refreshing, especially with options like print-on-demand paperbacks. Many people now have a voice they wouldn’t have had a few decades ago. Every story is worth reading! Now, if only I could be bothered to do it myself. #WritingCommunity
Lately, I’ve been reading the ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ series, and I’m calling it ‘research’ to ‘refine my own craft’. Honestly though, I haven’t been this immersed in enthralled with a story for a while. What’s your current ‘research material’? 😉✍🏻 #WritingCommunity
@dpwilsonauthor Honestly, this is the best way to write! Taking a break from one piece to come back to it later with 1. Fresh eyes, 2. A renewed excitement and passion for the story, while still satisfying the need to write… wouldn’t have it any other way, myself. 🥰
@elchandler My earliest memory of writing is at 4 years old, when I wrote and illustrated a picture book about monsters having a picnic, for my best friend. We became best friends again in high school, and he still had the picture book in storage in his attic. 🥰 The work was dire. 😆
@EmilyTolmie I forgot to mention, prior to this, accept rejection as a likely part of the process. Not in a pessimistic, ‘everyone is going to turn me down’ kind of way, but again, in a way where you acknowledge this will happen but you’re prepared to learn from the criticism. ✍🏻😊
@EmilyTolmie Always approach rejection with an intent to positively reframe the situation. Take rejection as an opportunity to grow and develop your work from any criticism received. 😊
@AmyLeeBooks Rarely - not nearly as much as you would hear them in natural speech. But where it can emphasise something about the character and their current emotional/mental state, and where it serves to make dialogue feel more natural, yes. 😊
This post is about four weeks too late, but what are your #writing goals for this year? ✍🏻 I think personally, I just want to finish another book - my life is so busy that even this small goal is a hefty pursuit for me! #writingcommunity#amwriting
