Emergency Registrar, ACEM trainee. Working hard to fund the extravagant blueberry-loving, shoe-chewing lifestyle my outback rescue mutt has become accustomed to
@nathan_warner Love Glasgow street art! I’m sure you’ve worked this out already, but just in case you haven’t: check out the Glasgow City Centre Mural Trail website, and it will tell you where some of the best ones are.
@fakethom When I did my med school elective in Scotland, “jags” for immunizations and “BM” for blood sugar (BSL in Australia) were the 2 main ones I remember being confused on initially.
@sineadtaylor I’ve also rode a Lekker Amsterdam for 2 days in the Clare Valley (did about 80km across the 2 days), and it was lovely! Much smoother take-off, lighter bike-frame, but over $1K more… would definitely consider for my next one, just wish it was step-through
@sineadtaylor I have an NCM Milano which I overall like but it’s pretty heavy. I didn’t want to go too pricey in case I didn’t like it (I LOVE having an e-bike). Great in Perth (riding to social things and showing up not sweaty is awesome), have also used it on the Munda Biddi without issue!
In the light of the #RoeVsWade ruling we reiterate: The College strongly supports the availability of abortion being an essential aspect of safe healthcare delivery, and stands with healthcare professionals across the world in protecting patients’ access to care.
My take away ‘hot topics’ from #ICEM22
1) Pharmacist role in critical situations.
2) Automated abstraction of key information from prior hospital records.
3) Impact of climate change on emergency care are very real in many countries.
4) Care for low energy transfer trauma.
Nearly thought Prof Edgardo Menendez was going to end his fantastic #ICEM22 lecture with his absolutely amazing despacito intubation guide from @icem2018 in Mexico… here’s a taster for those who missed it. Such a passionate emergency medicine leader!
@acemonline @ICEM2022
@TJCoats@IFEM2@EM3FOAMed Big fan - I’ve used it for ED registrar teaching and full departmental simulation teaching, as well as on APLS courses. It’s easy to control from the iPad as the facilitator, and the monitor is easy to see as a participant (plus it’s concerning beeping really adds to the tension)
Excellent, thought-provoking morning at #ICEM22 with a fantastic panel who have challenged me to think more about how equality doesn’t equal equity. We all individually can push for equitable care for our patients. Gender, race, refugee status - we need to do better. @ICEM2022
An impassioned speech by @Kon__K, emphasising health inequities and poor treatment of asylum seekers in Australia. "What if we cared for people before the crisis began", he asked. #ICEM22
#ICEM22 Whitney Bryant provided a fantastic overview of gunshot injuries for those of us who rarely see them.
- gunshot hx taking
- “be fast and be decisive” in caring for GSW
- “platinum 10 minutes” to get pt out of trauma bay
- “trauma is a naked disease” - need full body exam
#ICEM22 ‘Trauma Care in the 21st Century’ kicking off with @MyaCubitt : “it’s time to evolve our view of trauma… towards the people who carry the burden of injury in our populations”. 40% deaths in major trauma are in ppl >75yrs. Av falls LOS is ~9.5 days
