Today, members of our @LASchools Student Advisory Council visited LA City Hall to meet with @CD5LosAngeles Yaroslavsky, @MayorOfLA Bass’ team, @lacivilrights and @LACityYouth Department leaders to learn about civic engagement at the local level, youth advocacy, and city services.
This week, we are proud to recognize Sade Lopez, an outstanding junior at Nathaniel Narbonne High School, for earning first place in the Congressional App Challenge.
Sade developed an app designed to help non-verbal individuals communicate, an incredible example of how technology can be used to create meaningful impact.
Her creativity, compassion, and dedication to helping others truly set her apart and inspire our entire Los Angeles Unified community.

College credit before graduation? At Carson Academy of Education & Empowerment, it’s happening right now.
Today, we visited with Congresswoman Nanette Barragán and LACCD Chancellor Dr. Alberto J. Román to see @LASchools @cte_linkedlearningla Dual Enrollment in action — where students earn college credit while still in high school thanks to our partnership with @laccd_edu.
From Child Development labs to CTE Gaming courses, student leaders proudly shared their success stories — proving that with the right opportunities, our students can dream bigger, achieve more, and lead the way.
Thank you to Principal Eric Fitzpatrick, Ms. Rendon, Ms. Loh, and the entire Carson AEE community for showing what’s possible when college and career readiness starts early.

📚🐾 Reading opens the world for our students! We kicked off the first week at Bakewell Primary Center with @AsmTinaMcKinnor and @FamsInSchools President & Executive Director Yolie Flores for #ReadLA — sharing books, smiles, and even a visit from Clifford the Big Red Dog! Students and families enjoyed storytime, books to take home, and a love of reading that’s off the charts. ✨
