🚨Leaving Cert NEWS 🚨
Min. @NormaFoleyTD1, mindful of the stress of the traditional LC exams, will extend assessment beyond our initial plan of a 5th year papers.
The new LC will incorporate Friday spelling tests and results from Maths champion games in primary school. #easywin

[Conor Murphy @conorsmurf]

Remember Entrance Exams to get into secondary schools?
Remember how they were removed?
Remember how that stress in 6th class has dissapeared?
Now think about the LC/CAO exams in 6th year.

Moving LC Comprehension Exam to 5th year.
A thread.
What does this move mean?
CAO is now more important than Education.

What does this mean?
The middle class is more important than the working class.
Education is for a certain element of society.

[Conor Murphy @conorsmurf]

The ability to read and comprehend and spot the techniques a writer is using to manipulate you is strengthened as you go through the course.
Doing ANYTHING before 6th year requires a whole new syllabus.
Anything else is a disservice to students and the value we hold for Ed.

[Conor Murphy @conorsmurf]

I'll say this again:
English, at LC, is taught as one whole unit where EVERYTHING feeds into each other.
There are no modules.
No stand alone elements.

If there is ONE thing I wish successive Ministers for Education would realise is that ordering dramatic amendments to State Examinations in the name of creating some kind of ministerial(& personal)legacy&in spite of legitimate professional objections is just fundamentally selfish

Our school has an exchange programme with a Boston school. They come here in TY, we go there in 5th.
A number of students have told me they can't go because of the CAO exams in 5th year.
Well done @NormaFoleyTD1.
That's the way to stop young people from expanding their horizons!
