NEW FBI WARNING — Issued Dec 5, 2025

Criminals are using altered photos pulled from social media to fabricate “proof-of-life” in virtual kidnapping scams.

The FBI reports that scammers are:
• Scraping photos from social media
• Manipulating them to appear as “hostage” images
• Sending these fakes to family members with violent threats
• Demanding immediate ransom payments
• Using timed-disappearing messages to reduce detection

These criminals create urgency, pressure, and panic. They are counting on parents or family members to act before thinking.

Signs of a virtual kidnapping scam:
• Claims you can’t call your loved one
• Extreme threats if ransom isn’t paid instantly
• Photos or videos that contain inaccuracies (wrong tattoos, scars, proportions, clothes, backgrounds)
• Calls or texts from unknown numbers demanding wire transfers, PayPal, Zelle, crypto, etc.

How to protect your family:
• Limit your children’s images online—once posted, they can be stolen and weaponized.
• Establish a family code word for emergencies.
• Always try to contact your loved one directly before reacting to any threat.
• Screenshot/save any supposed “proof-of-life” media.
• If targeted, report immediately to the FBI at www. ic3. gov

When child abuse, rape and nonconsensual content is distributed and monetized on sites like P*rnhub, it isn’t p*rnography— it is tech-facilitated, online sex trafficking.

By definition, any commercial sex act involving a minor, or induced by force, fraud or coercion, is an act of trafficking. All content on Big P*rn sites like P*rnhub is heavily commercialized. Therefore, every child and every non-consenting adult on those sites, is a victim of trafficking.

Emma* discovered that a compilation video of men masturbating to nude photos of her at 14 years old was being monetized on P*rnhub with ads, distributed to 130 million site visitors per day, and made downloadable for free. The video used the tag “naked teen.”

Ashamed to tell her parents or the police, she reached out to P*rnhub informing them she was 14 and demanding the video be removed. P*rnhub responded with a generic, automated response. Two weeks later, having heard nothing further she desperately reached out again demanding a takedown.

This time she provided P*rnhub with a picture of her passport to verify her age and identity. The passport confirmed she was underage. P*rnhub eventually responded, but did not remove the video. Discouraged after these failed attempts, she eventually gave up.

She was severely traumatized by the ordeal and now suffers from extreme depression & anxiety. She fears the widespread dissemination of the video will interfere with her dream of becoming a teacher one day.

She sued P*rnhub in 2021.

New evidence published on Sept 1 by the court in a California child sex trafficking class action lawsuit shows unearthed evidence that P*rnhub’s owner and CEO made the decision to only hire ONE person to work 5 days a week reviewing flagged videos. They had a backlog of 706,000 flagged videos and an intentional policy where a video would not be put in line for review unless it had over 15 flags.

The emails, text messages and depositions show employees understood that “management did not want the rules [against illegal content] enforced” and depositions proved P*rnhub was hiding known child sexual abuse videos from authorities for over 13 years.

It’s clear that P*rnhub’s owners and executives set up a system that thwarted and discouraged victims from being able to take down their criminal abuse. In fact, in a new sex trafficking lawsuit filed in California federal court on Sept 8, the victim says P*rnhub threatened to sue her if she continued trying to remove her sex trafficking from the site.
