🚨🎙️ Gerard Piqué on Bruno Fernandes winning the Premier League Player of the Season Award
“Everyone was expecting Declan Rice to walk away with the award. He anchored Arsenal to the Premier League title, bossed the midfield, and looked like the complete package — fair play to him, he had a serious season.
But Bruno Fernandes winning it? That doesn’t surprise me one bit, and honestly, it shouldn’t surprise anyone who actually watches football properly. The way Bruno dragged Manchester United week after week with his goals, his assists, that incredible vision and creativity, plus the leadership and fight he showed when things got tough… that’s real elite quality right there. People love to chase the team that wins the league, but individual brilliance like Bruno’s stands out no matter what. Titles are one thing, but this kind of impact? That’s what wins awards. Bruno fully deserves it — simple as that.” —
This is as clear-cut as you will ever see. The handball is absolutely crystal clear.
Looking back at it today, the Sky Sports panel were an embarrassment last night. Honestly, they should be issuing apologies. And I can’t believe I’m saying this, but they owe apologies to John Beaton, Andrew Dallas and even the SFA.
When you actually look at the still images and the replay properly, the officials made an absolutely fantastic decision under enormous pressure. That is EXACTLY why VAR was brought into football — to help officials make the correct calls in huge moments like that.
Derek McInnes’ comments were completely over the top as well. In my opinion, when people in positions of influence start questioning the integrity of decisions like that without properly analysing the footage, they bring the Scottish game into disrepute.
You then had English pundits and media figures jumping on it because controversy sells. Let’s be honest — the English media have never respected the Scottish game, but they love a fairytale title story because it creates headlines, interviews and money.
Rangers fans will disagree because they hate Celtic. Hearts fans will disagree because their first title in decades is on the line. But anybody who looks at the footage objectively, regardless of who they support anywhere in world football, can clearly see the correct decision was made.
The officials deserve credit, not abuse.
And despite months of people wanting Celtic written off and buried, here we are — still fighting, still standing, and ready to fight right to the very end.
The Celtic show rolls on.
Hail Hail 🍀
