Hippopotamus, Egyptian 2040-1638 BC. “Hippos were fearsome beasts, and early kings are sometimes shown spearing roaring hippos in a scene that became a metaphor for imposing order on chaos… The hippopotamus was also a power for good. Tawaret, a hippo goddess, protected women in pregnancy and childbirth.” Collection: RISD Museum.
110th Anniversary #OTD in #Art#History 6 Dec 1912, the painted limestone bust of #Nefertiti, wife of Pharaoh Akhenaten, was found in the workshop of Thutmose in Amarna, Egypt. It has been dated to 1345 BC. The #NefertitiBust is currently on display at the Neues Museum in Berlin.

Inside the bull are pebbles, which could mean it was shaken like a rattle during rituals or ceremonies.
