This might be largest ‘Jack-in-the-Pulpit’ #Arisaema triphyllum i’ve ever seen! A common herbaceous #aroid in forests of eUS, but usually not quite this big.. Individuals produce staminate flowers at base of spadix when small; plants shift to female when large like this. #Araceae
Former #Seahawks QB Tarvaris Jackson died last night in a car accident in Alabama, a spokesperson for his employer Tennessee State tells me. Jackson, 36, was TSU’s QB coach. Along with Seattle, he also played for the #Vikings and #Bills.

Spiralling spiralizers! Suspect we have some #Leafcutter#Bees (#Megachilidae) active in the yard... Lower leaves on this #Bayberry shrub (#Morella pensylvanica) are all carved up- bees use these circular pieces to construct small nests containing their eggs & pollen for larvae.

Plant pigmentation mutation: #anthocyanins on; anthocyanins off! Here pitchers of #Sarracenia leucophylla - wild type w/ red & purple veins (L) and the horticulturally-propagated ‘viridescens’ form (R) lacking anthocyanins. Flowers shift from red to yellow too! #CarnivorousPlant
