@sweetdreamzkumi I recently read a fan translation of a light novel chapter that was 1:1 vs the prior chapter which the other translator tried to localize.

The latter chapter at least slightly sounded like the characters, the former had a ton of weird grammar and stilted phrasing.

@KMRthewriter44 I wanna say 3 months? Give or take. Waitressing at a dinner theater. The hours and constant work took a drastic toll on my body, giving me chronic migraines and aggravating the ganglion cysts in my wrists so badly I couldn't carry trays without intense pain.

@DoingMyBest96 All I'm saying is if you're trying to write a disloyal mastermind that lies by misdirection and omission and backstabs everyone in his quest for power....

Maybe try to channel more drow energy into that?

@DoingMyBest96 If you're writing a big-brain chessmaster villain the plots require STEPS this is an exhaustive effort.

If your readers can easily poke holes in your plan you didn't write a chessmaster.

@RipleyJNick @belet_seri For me it genuinely depends on the writer. Sometimes I really like him and other times I find him boring. It just depends on how you handle the character. There is a good character in there somewhere.

Neuland is the region I would call the most "standard fantasy" out of them all. It's a medieval kingdom ruled by humans with a decent-sized population of other races, particularly halflings.

Oh and it has knights.

You say a fantasy species with a longer lifespan is more likely to be traditional.

I say a fantasy species with a longer lifespan is more likely to remember past mistakes as recent history and therefore are more likely to progress faster by remembering it.

I was considering how my world's drow have progressed rapidly in the last 1600 years and this made me realize it's probably just rapid for them.

@belet_seri Some people really do think only Western Europeans can be colonizers, or think that a colonized culture can't itself be a colonizer.

You see it with Japan all the time.
