The outcome in Ol Kalou is hardly the political earthquake some are pretending it to be. The Broad Based formation has won nine of the last ten by-elections. To elevate one defeat above nine victories is a textbook example of overgeneralising from a single result, masquerading as a profound political awakening. The selective outrage is as intellectually dishonest as it is politically convenient.

More disingenuous still is watching a handful of fence-sitting ODM legislators seize upon this solitary outcome in an attempt to undermine the Broad Based agenda. They remained conspicuously cautious when conviction was required, yet now seek to recast themselves as custodians of political wisdom.

The people of Luo Nyanza are neither confused nor in search of direction. They understand the course charted by Baba and the rationale behind it. We will not allow those who chose the comfort of the fence to squander the opportunities created by those who had the courage to lead.

Our task is to strengthen the Broad Based agenda, support President William Ruto wherever it advances our shared interests, and ensure that the promises made to our people are honoured.

Legislators who continue to frustrate the #TUTAM agenda should remember that history has little regard for those who mistake hesitation for prudence or popularity for principle. The third liberation our political father envisioned cannot be held hostage by timid politicians preoccupied with their own political survival. Onagi demands conviction, organisation and resolve. The time for equivocation has passed.
