💢 Lebanese turtle conservationist attacked in Israeli airstrike on her home
Mona Khalil, a pioneering Lebanese marine turtle conservationist who founded the Orange House Project on Mansouri Beach in southern Lebanon, was wounded in an Israeli airstrike on her home Thursday.
Khalil underwent surgery for severe injuries, including a serious abdominal wound, before her condition stabilized Friday, according to Lebanese media and the NGO Green Southerners. “For more than two decades, her efforts helped transform this relatively small stretch of coastline into one of the most important sea turtle nesting sites on the eastern Mediterranean coast,” the NGO told the New Arab.

So many folks are dealing with the guilt & anxiety of not being able to do more. It’s a real struggle. A taxi driver today was saying that some days they only make $20 and then he sees a person who don’t have any money for food, so he gives them $5. The taxi driver had 6 kids.
Herzliya was named after the founder of political Zionism Theodor Herzl. It was built over the lands of three Palestinian villages that were ethnically cleansed & destroyed by Israel in 1948: Ijlil al-Shamaliyya, Ijlil al-Qibliyya, & al-Haram (Sayyiduna 'Ali). 1/
This is so devastating, honestly. I don’t understand how so many people can march for a state that is actively committing a genocide.
Are Palestinian lives really worth so little to this many Canadians?
If so, I’m ashamed to call myself Canadian today.
Yesterday, an Israeli soldier opened fire on a Palestinian family sitting in their car. He was ten meters away. It was broad daylight.
The father, a lecturer at Bethlehem University, was shot in the head. Another bullet passed through their seven-month-old baby's jaw and struck the mother as well.
The baby, Sam, did not survive.
Scalia died in February 2016. It took Obama a full month to nominate a replacement and then he used no leverage and barely lifted a finger for Garland; the party was more focused in the moment at making sure everyone understood how racist and sexist Bernie Sanders was.
Plenty of Obama aides were actually glad when Dems lost the senate in 2014 because they were sick of Harry Reid pushing Obama to be more assertive and fight more.
They lost the Senate in 2014 largely because of Obama’s capitulation to/obsession with austerity and reducing the deficit.
He constantly insisted he had no real power — Neera will probably respond by saying he had no power — which Trump has proved totally wrong.
And when RBG died in September 2020 Trump nominated ACB the next week. They play to win.
But sure, a 5 minute segment from @chrislhayes would’ve made the difference. (And I’m sure he did do a bunch actually.)

"'He yells,' said one MP (...). 'He punches down at caucus all the time.'"
This is pretty unsurprising based on various reports on some of Carney's behind-the-scenes behaviour since day one, but it's still really off-putting to read.
Great reporting from @althiaraj. She's killing it.
the idea that the United States can be leveraged by Lebanon against Israel is a fantasy that would be funny if it were not the official position of many politicians and would-be politicians
