one of the worst decisions of the last few decades has been removing shop classes from high schools.
not being able to build something with your own hands fundamentally perverts how you interact with the world. you’re locked to consume. build the bookcase, it will set you free
@TheMarkSchipper@robkhenderson Same! Listened growing up as a teen, and now I listen to the old episodes on https://t.co/smFpL7dmd2 all the time, slowly making my way through the years. If you sign in, you can download them and listen in the Files app, which I find slightly better than playing in the browser.
@OutofSpecDetail@Paradox_EP@ChadMoran@Tesla@Rivian This is a good point. I have CarPlay in my ‘12 Jeep, ‘08 Porsche, and ‘92 300ZX, and it modernizes them just enough + replaces the garbage stock UIs. In my Tesla there’s no CarPlay, and if there was, I wouldn’t use it — I rely solely on its integrated route planning for charging.
@STO_DocTheop@simonbs It’s just these little guys, doubled over on themselves! I’m going to splice the wires onto a USB-C connector so the Mac Mini can power it https://t.co/VbszyLagCL
@NCOV089 No worries, I just make sure to tell folks the circumstances around these restomods because I’m also a collector who hates to see iMacs become fish tanks haha.
What are you bringing to the coffee shop?
🍏eMate with a 1024x600 touchscreen, 1 finger scrolling
🍊iBook with a 1800x1280 display, trackpad, camera, mic
Both have: macOS 14, WiFi/BT, iMessage, Airdrop, LED backlight, keyboard, 4 hour batt, speakers, USB-C/A, 500GB/8GB, handles
@NCOV089 And yeah, I hadn't touched an eMate until I built this. It's a really beautiful machine, I dare say the lines are even nicer than the iBook...
@NCOV089 Don't worry, the eMate was completely destroyed by corrosion, so I didn't trash perfectly good retro tech! The iBook had its display and logic board donated to repair a one customer's iBook, its charge board went in another, and its CD drive is still waiting to find a home.
@NCOV089 Just published this blog entry with a step-by-step guide showing how to do the rebuild, hope this helps you in your build! https://t.co/a6GfWLhaZv
Just rebuilt another iBook battery. After a full charge to 16.8V, I unplugged the charger; it’s been on all night (7+ hours) and it’s still at 14.1V! Once it hits 12.0V, it will power off and the new capacity will be stored to the battery’s EEPROM. Hoping for 5,000mAh!
