@jelleprins@Alber_RomGar The difference is that these other billion dollar startups don’t try to mislead us about their intentions & goals. Uber never said they are a non profit. OpenAI did.
@recmo@tzhen I think there are 3 approaches:
1) fake privacy: one side has all the info (eg Amazon in web2)
2) real privacy
3) radical transparency
Elites will have a better time with approach 1 or 2 since they can abuse the information asymmetry. Lower and middle class do better with 3.
Investors need to understand that China has taken a turn towards a different economic model: Higher regulation standards, curbing non-strategic tech, redistribution of wealth, better capital allocation, de-levering, clamping on evasion/irregularities and crushing speculation
@muellerberndt You are right at the end it's a tradeoff. OpenSea chose to go with a better UX with less fraud detection. But even with on-chain escrow we still have the problem that sellers can use a second account and buy their own NFT to push up price & demand.
Question:
Why do we use a multiplication on the elliptic curve function secp256k1 instead of a simple hash function (e.g. she-256) to derive the public key? Both operations are irreversible. @mevintern@mevalphaleak@ExoticMev
How are pub key, private key and the pub address generated on Ethereum?
Private Key:
The private key is simply a random number between 1-2^256. That is roughly between 1 and 1.158 * 10^77. The visible universe has between 10^77 and 10^80 atoms.
Public Address:
To finally get the public address, you calculate the hash of the public key using the Keccak-256 hash function. Take the last 20 bytes of hash and you get your public address.
@balajis@Jason@APompliano @michael_saylor @VinnyLingham@markjeffrey@jerallaire How can you be neutral when the Tether guys are so intransparent. They could harm the whole ecosystem. Why don't you push for a transparent investigation? That would help newcomers to put more trust in the system. We small guys can only tweet which has 0 impact.
At this point it's highly likely that Tether is a scam. It's unclear what the impact on the ecosystem as whole will be when it blows up. I think the risk to set blockchain tech back for years is high. We small guys can't do much. We need help from you big guys. 1/n
Here is a great article summarising the Tether scandal.

@balajis, @VitalikButerin,@brian_armstrong, @SBF_Alameda why don't you work together and resolve the issue before Tether becomes too big too fail. 2/n
