Brain training (such as sudoku) for 3 minutes a day could improve the brain health of older adults. In a study of more than 6,500 people aged 50 years and older, participants who completed brain training saw improvements in:
🧠thinking and problem-solving
🧠memory
🧠attention.
Improvements were small, but any improvement could have a big impact at the population level. Read the findings: https://t.co/owvWTeRf8J

Falls are the leading cause of hospital admissions and injury-related deaths in people aged over 65.
Despite lots of work into falls prevention, falls still occur and we’re funding research to evaluate the clinical and cost-effectiveness of an intervention focused on (re)training older adults to independently return to standing following a fall.

We have has signed a joint statement with other major UK research funders, committing to better inclusion of older adults in health and care research ✍️
The statement sets out a shared commitment to actively support the inclusion of older adults in research, challenge unjustified exclusion and ensure that research is designed with equity in mind and better reflects the diversity of the UK. With inclusion being a condition of funding, NIHR wants to see more researchers include older people in their funding applications.
