Youth leader Jasmine bravely came to Sacramento to testify in support of SB 1257, sharing her peer Manuelito’s story and the impact immigration enforcement has had on his family. 👏🏽

Jasmine is a proud member of @TODEC1's Monarcas Luchadoras youth program, where young leaders continue to raise their voices for their families and communities. 🦋

Her testimony reminds us that immigration enforcement has deep impacts on families, communities, and the support systems people rely on every day.

We urge the Assembly Appropriations Committee to support SB 1257 to better understand these harms, strengthen transparency, and advance accountability.

SB 1257 heads to the Assembly Appropriations Committee! Our Sr. Policy Associate, Alexandrina Chavez, delivered her first testimony on behalf of the LCHC in support. 👏🏽

SB 1257 would require an annual report on immigration enforcement incidents at designated locations. No one should fear detention while seeking healthcare, attending school, or accessing essential services. 🗂️

This critical measure would help increase transparency and strengthen public accountability. ✅

We urge committee members to vote YES and help uphold California’s protections for immigrant communities.

The Legislature has acted. Now it is Governor Newsom’s turn. 👏🏽

Lawmakers put forward a budget agreement that delays harmful cuts and prevents immediate harm to Californians, including delays in cuts to dental care and removing humanitarian immigrant groups off full scope Medi-Cal.

The budget plan also creates pathways to generate new revenue to support healthcare investments and protect California’s safety net.

These delays immediately protect many Californians, but the fight is not over. The Medi-Cal freeze continues to threaten access and roll back more than a decade of progress toward Health for All.

Governor Newsom, it is your time to act. Sign AB 109, protect immigrant health, and defend your legacy as a leader on healthcare access.

Last week, we attended the Hispanics in Philanthropy Conference (@BeHIPGive) in Los Angeles and joined @AltaMedHealthS for their Charla, “What Now? Healthcare Access and Equity at a Crossroads,” highlighting policy changes impacting immigrant health in California.

It was inspiring to meet so many leaders who are helping to power Latino changemakers across the country. We look forward to continuing to build relationships, strengthen our collective power, and advance Latine health equity throughout California.
